Instead people talk about failed rebellions in the Red river delta by Kinh predecessors to portray them as victims. Vietnamese Medieval records also call Qu Lian a barbarian or savage and don't portray him as a hero at all.

Nobody likes to talk about Qu Lian's rebellion against China even though it shows China was an invader because it would lead more people to know about Champa and ask what eventually happened to it and find out about Vietnam's invasions.

Also the sea and islands were not claimed by China 2,000 years ago, all the countries claims are far more recent.

It's illegal for any country to claim oceanic waters, only the islands can be claimed under international law, but China was definitely in Champa 2,000 years ago which is why the pre-Indic Cham led by Qu Lian rebelled against China's rule.

Then the still animist Cham predecessors were Indianized from Funan.

Qu Lian led the rebellion against the Han dynasty in 193 AD to establish independent Linyi (Champa) in 193 after driving out forces from the Han dynasty (which was in the process of disintegrating into the three kingdoms at that time).

Nanyue invaded the northern area of Champa (Linyi) back when it was tribal animist after taking the Red River delta and then the Han dynasty annexed Nanyue. The (ancestral Cham) Qu Lian was from Xianglin district of Rinan commandery in the Han dynasty.
