Thank you to everyone that came out to our first social distance cleanup of 2020! We were able to get a lot of trash out of the river, including a few tires! Please stay tuned for future cleanup dates!
Happy Fly Friday! The Biot Sulphur is one of many versions of this Michigan super hatch. Though small in size, it hatches in large enough numbers to bring large trout to the surface.
Thank you for sharing, Tom W.! We love seeing everyone's catches. ππ£
Some beautiful flies by our VP! Cone head zonker strip Matukas. Great for the Paint Creek on a floating line to entice large trout in those deep holes and runs.

Borcher's is another Michigan original. Designed by Ernie Borcher, it's a great all around pattern that is an excellent imitation when tied in various sizes of darker flies right on up to the Brown Drake. It's a great day for tyin'!
Sometimes you have a "crappie" day fishing...π£π
This is a high floating high visibility caddis pattern. With the rubber legs, it can imitate a variety of terrestrial bugs.
It's going to be a beautiful day. Take it slow. π
Just your basic foam rubber spider. Tie it in multiple colors. A great panfish fly for beginner or expert. π
I'm sure many of you had plans to go out of town this holiday weekend that were unfortunately cancelled. We feel your pain, but don't forget there are plenty of places in Southeast Michigan to get your fix! This little Bluegill was caught in the pond at Rochester Municipal Park. A great spot for beginners!
These triangle bugs are ready to go!

Tied up a few super basic triangle bugs tonight for some potential bass and panfish fun this weekend. Tied with 2mm craft foam, marabou tail, and some upcycled βrubber legsβ I took from some old spinner bait replacement skirts I had laying around lol. Big thanks to my friend @tomlosiowski who introduced me to this excellent topwater pattern a while ago π€

Paint Creek Report: Creek is up a bit and a little stained. Currently flowing at 122 CFS and dropping.
Mercer's Missing Link Caddis was originally tied to imitate a crippled caddis but has been found to be a great pattern for all types of caddis, and possibly other aquatic and terrestrial insects. Let's get tyin'! #flyfriday
Robert's Yellow Drake is a Michigan original. Tied in various sizes can imitate a variety of mayflies, particularly hexes, as well as brown drakes in the larger sizes. It is one of the first patterns using deer hair parallel to the shank for the body.
A cloudy gray day equals a gray & white zonker strip matuka by our VP. π§π
Another member that took advantage of the nice weather this weekend! Nice catch!π£

Had a killer time today finally catching some warm water friends on a semi-secret lake on a gorgeous day with my bud @tyler_k3370n
Was able to cross off a new species on the fly with my first black crappie on a self tied clouser. We also had fun with some largemouth and gills on poppers. Even got some dry fly practice with a bluegill on a Hendrickson spinner lol. All around blast with my seldom fished 5 wt π€

For every nice day we get, we get ten more that are rainy. Thankfully there's plenty of flies to tie. π
A nicely tied soft hackle. A great imitation of caddis or mayfly emergers. Excellent pattern for new and experienced fisherman to swing for trout.
Madsen's skunk is a Michigan original. Fished on top as an attractor. Twitched or drifted it can imitate any multitude of aquatic or terrestrial life to entice a lunker. What are you tying on this rainy Fly Friday? #flyfriday
A perfect sculpin pattern streamer utilizing a weighted head to get it along the bottom where sculpin thrive. Good work to our VP. π
Egg sucking leeches are an excellent all round fly used quite often during the salmon and steelhead runs. π
The Hairy Drake is a large attractor pattern usually tyed in a size 10 or 12 3x long streamer hook thus requiring heavy hackling. Notice the palmered body and thick parachute. Can be fished from mid May to the end of the season. It's a great fly to fish during the day when Brown Drakes and Hexes are in season.
