I'm in the national guard here. It's pretty unlikely I'd get put on orders for this but I'll tell you straight up, if i did and they told me to intimidate or threaten protesters, I'd 100% go AWOL. Fuck that shit. I'm on your side, and i didn't enlist for that. If i get kicked out of the military then fine, but i sure as hell won't stand by and be a part of that.
Don’t worry about getting kicked out, you’ll catch a court martial.
Fine by me. I'm sure any of the nazis who were having second thoughts about going door to door and apprehending Jews were also threatened by some bullshit Nazi law in a similar manner.
I'm not saying this situation is the same as the holocaust, but the idea of standing up for your ethical and moral principles in the face of sinister threats from some higher power is the same. I will not stand by and be complacent in the face of something that violates my core ethical principles.
In more practical talk though, I wouldn't be worried about UCMJ stuff in the slightest in this situation. A stern talk with my commander and some paperwork maybe.
This isn't an ad or anything but I just wanted to say, if you like seafood and you've never been to Dune Brothers, do yourself a gosh darn favor and treat yourself to a fish sandwich from that place. I found them through instagram a while back and I finally went there for the first time yesterday, I'm not kidding when I say I bit into the fish sandwich and literally started laughing with joy because it was so good haha. It helps that I haven't gotten great food in a while as I've been cooking for myself (not the best chef) but man it was so fire.
Tad pricey since it's all locally/sustainably sourced fish and stuff, but 100% worth it.
Yes!! I love to see this! Those guys are buddies of mine, and they are just great people on top of being amazing chefs! All the options are amazing, but whatever you get, don't sleep on the french fries on the side... yummmmm!
That's awesome! They seemed really cool when i went to pick up my order.
Oh you know i had to get them french fries! They were sooo damn good. And man they don't skimp on them either, i was in a damn coma afterwards. I just ate dinner but I'm drooling thinking about the next time i go back haha.
On a sunny day it is a great place for some seafood and a beer. I’m moving to PVD in 4 days and this is def on my list for the weekend. I believe in keeping the menu small and have everything taste great.
Nice! And yea 100%, thats one thing i really liked when i was ordering seeing the small menu. that's really refreshing to see when so many places try to have as many menu items as possible, i guess maybe to appease everyone.
I got the fish sandwhich when i went but i cant wait to try the lobster roll. Looks so good.
This person clearly has some ego problems
You said it best. This is their issue and the onus is not on you to deal with it. You can think of them saying "HAH I knew you didn't read this book, you're a dirty poser!" as identical to them telling you "I have deep-rooted issues that cause me to project and result in bringing those around me down in order to inflate my own ego out of self-protection". How would you respond to the latter?
More practically speaking, I'd probably laugh it off and say something like "Well I just forgot but if that's what you want to believe then fine". Or even double down and be like "Oh yea man, you got me good. I lied about reading the book to look cool, man I'm such a pathetic piece of trash!". They probably want you to argue with them so they can continue 'winning', but if you yes-and (because ultimately it's inconsequential) then it will disarm them.
The past is a bad metric. The future could always be worse. Saving is important, but expecting a guarantee of a comfortable retirement is foolish.
The future could always be worse. 2 years ago the future could have been worse, did that mean you stopped investing altogether 2 years ago? There's nothing happening right now that's worse than WW2, 9/11, etc... So the potential for something worse happening down the line is the same as it's always been.
Just want to point out that 9/11 was directly responsible for 2,973 deaths and CoVID has beaten 100k in the US last week.
We haven't topped WW2 numbers in the US, yet (419k), but we did beat Vietnam (58k).
I don't if comparing raw number of deaths is the best, or only, way to measure the impact (economically or culturally) of a tragedy.
Hospitalizations were just starting to go down in America, because 1 many of us have been staying at home 99% of the time, and 2 because a lot of the most vulnerable are already dead. We already killed them with our inept leadership, and lack of caring by a lot of our citizens.
Now we have people rushing out to malls, bars, and restaurants as fast as possible. Others we have gathering in massive protests. Now in a couple of weeks we will start to see the effects again, and probably be forced to stay inside for another month, or forced to go to work and get our parents sick.
Now we have people rushing out to malls, bars, and restaurants as fast as possible. Others we have gathering in massive protests.
This is seriously the most annoying and disappointing thing to see. The protests i can at least understand, from a reasoning standpoint. But the people who are desperate to go to restaurants and bars literally the second the government starts easing up restrictions? And many of them the same people who were grand standing and virtue signaling all throughout quarantine about how serious the virus is? Baffling. It's like the whole thing never happened, or they have the memory of a goldfish.
Where i am we're only about a week into opening back up (restaurants and public places and what not) and you wouldn't have guessed there was ever a quarantine. Packed restaurants, crowds out in the streets/parks. People are literally begging to go back into quarantine at this point.
The battery chickens are pumped full of antibiotics to try to keep down disease. They are fed the cheapest food and have just enough room to sit and stand. They are often standing in their own waste. I’m country so I have the luxury of eggs from happy chickens :) So yeah.. range free is best but you might want to do a double check on the rotisserie chickens you buy at stores. They could be battery grown chickens. I know Whole Foods and Publix use range free chickens...just saying.
Absolutely horrible, makes me sick to my stomach to think about that. When you really think about it, what gives us the right to treat an animal like that? One that we know is very much capable of feeling pain, love, etc... Should not be legal, we need to think of better ways to feed the masses and rethink our understanding of what cheap food really is.
The ironic thing about all this is they do it to provide food that is cheaper. You want range free eggs? Then you pay more. Good clean food should be available to everyone not just to those that pay big bucks.
Yep exactly, that's what i was getting at with that we need to rethink our understanding of "cheap" food. We think cheap food = good because more people can afford it.
But what is the true cost of that cheap food? Total animal torture and the long slow suffering of a living being. We need to come up with better ways of making sure people have access to good food that doesn't carry along the burden of animal torture or slave labor. Growing your own food as much as possible, community gardens, regulation, something.
While I’m glad she acknowledges this, it’s bad that this is considered “rich”, when it should be a basic standard for everyone.
I feel like we'll never achieve a "basic standard" like you say because that standard is constantly ever changing. Not long ago, relatively speaking, this would be considered rich (obviously the video is somewhat satire, albeit also a wholesome display of gratitude), and the "basic standard" you bring up would have been something far less (maybe sharing a bed with your family and having a nice bucket for a toilet).
In the future, an equivalent video to this might be showing their humble Sleep-O-Matic-5000 bed which simply thermo-regulates your body temperature for optimal sleep, and of course their basic VR suit so they can interact with the now standard VR world which everybody uses, etc, etc... And somebody will be commenting on that video saying "This should be considered a 'basic' standard for everyone". Even though now all that stuff would be considered hella rich.
I'm pretty baked
So in my calculus class we're on the chapter about trigonometric integrals and using the Pythagorean identity and stuff like that. I understand a good bit of it, but one of the homework problems is this one:
∫ cos2 3x dx
Up until this point we've been dealing with only 1x (so like cos3 x sin4 x, etc...) and the chapter doesnt have any examples like this one. What the heck do I do with that 3? I'm not even sure where to begin, since none of the identities or strategies the chapter talks about applies to this type of problem.
Thank you for any help! Greatly appreciated.
Answer: There are a lot of cool ways, but when it comes to homework, it's usually best to stick with the basics: use cos2u=(1+cos(2u))/2 and voilà, you're already almost done
Ahh thank you! My book has those identities but for some unholy reason defines them only in terms of x (so "cos2 x = (1+cos(2x))/2") instead of u so I didn't know you could do that. Thanks again I really appreciate it.
Diced up with some other vegetables it can go well in a pasta salad, adds a nice little crunch.
Im not so sure on 'nutritious' when it's just white flour and salt.
Disgusting. #eattherich
I can’t even afford to fix my car and now I can’t work my delivery jobs and this asshole complains about a bathroom. Fuck him
Live and let live man. Kid didn't choose to grow up rich. If anything i feel bad for him, probably won't ever know the real value of a dollar and missing out on subtle character building stuff like sharing a tiny bathroom with your whole family. I don't feel hatred and anger for people like that, I feel sorry.
And to flip the tables, let's be perfectly honest. If you hustled hard (which it sounds like you are) and struck big, got lucky, had a big break, whatever... and made a load of money, you'd probably buy a nice house. Don't kid yourself.
No I wouldn’t. I would buy a simple 2 bedroom condo for my dog and I. I don’t have kids or a husband and I enjoy being alone. I don’t want a large house it’s obscene.
Well that's entirely your opinion ('obscene'), and also your perspective from not actually being in that situation (we often times think or "know" we might act a certain way in a hypothetical scenario, but act differently if/when that scenario actually happens).
But in any case, you're telling me you wouldn't spend money on anything considered a relative luxury if you were rich?
I didn’t know drake bell still existed
And he's cute af tho, damn.
I moved from suburban Oregon to a rural French commune with only 700 people and 1 restaurant. Then Corona Lockdown happened. I've only left the house 3 times in 75 days. 0 fast food February. 😃
Wow, do you mean a French commune... in France? Or like a French commune still in the US? The former sounds like one hell of a transition lol, but either way still really interesting. What was that change of lifestyle like?
Yes, I mean a rural French commune in France. We're still working through this réception tbh. With Corona everything has slowed down. 👍🇨🇵
It's kind of a low key dream of mine to say F everything and move to some rural village in southern Italy or Sicily. I don't have the balls though haha. Best of luck to you in your new home though! Hopefully all smooths out after the Corona madness.
Does anyone know what the flightpath will be of the rocket? I can't seem to find it anywhere online.
I'm wondering if it'll be visible along the east coast, although 4:30est is still broad daylight so I'm guessing no either way?
Whoa that's sick! Thanks for that. Right along the east coast too, worth a shot to take a look outside.
