Why would Gus keep the bankaccount's in a picture frame. And not the encrypted computer, it seems very very dumb?
Erased hard drive? Damaged computer? Blue screen of death? When it comes to a large sum of money like that, I'd rather have the account number somewhere I can access it just in case for some reason I couldn't use the computer anymore.
But backup?
Also I am sure people would know their own bank accounts if he lost them all.
The money is the only reason all of them is doing this, seems strange not to protect it.
Thieves are more likely to steal a laptop than they are a computer frame. If the police did get a little more suspicious of Gus, a look at his computer (or a bug/keylogger) would be pretty high up on their to-do list. That and a picture frame can't be hacked, and there was obviously a butt-ton of money in those accounts. It's a little odd, but not entirely dumb.
Final thought: If something happened to Gus, it would allow someone like Mike to still have access to the 'legacy pay', without needing Mike to have his laptop/know the encryption.
At least encrypt it by hand, make some secret code. Not plain text. :-(
Because the writers needed it to give tension between Walt and Mike.
I agree with Bardobra that it's a sentimental thing... That's the only thing I can think of instead of Gus just making a mistake...
Because we're watching a fictional show that needs to move along somehow. In other words, if you analyze it inside the Breaking Bad universe there is no good answer-- it does not make sense.
