From Franklin Graham on Facebook

Has Chick-fil-A caved? Some are saying they’ve rolled over, that they’ve conceded to the LGBTQ protests because they released a statement about their charitable giving. They announced that in 2020 they’re giving to fight hunger and homelessness and support education.

I picked up the phone and called Dan Cathy. Dan was very clear that they have not bowed down to anyone’s demands, including the LGBTQ community. They will continue to support whoever they want to support. They haven’t changed who they are or what they believe. Chick-fil-A remains committed to Christian values. Dan Cathy assured me that this isn’t going to change. I hope all those who jumped to the wrong conclusion about them read this.

As many of you know, the Chick Fil A Foundation released their plans for charity donations in 2020. Many on the right are shocked and upset to learn that CFA will no longer be donating to the Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Many believe that CFA is caving to the pressure of the left to stop making donations to "anti-LGBT groups."

The media is eating this up. Most of the right and left-leaning news organizations are running rather egregious headlines claiming CFA has caved to the left and has chosen to stop donating to these charities because of LGBT issues.

I can't speak to whether they are "undoubtedly caving" as many people claim, but I can provide more context that a lot of news articles are leaving out. Hopefully, this allows everyone to have a more informed perspective of what's going on.

I have spent some time perusing the CFA Foundation's 2020 donations announcement and what their plans are for 2020. The biggest thing to take away from it is this: nowhere in this announcement do they say they are stopping donations to the Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. This would indicate that it was not the primary focus of their 2020 plans. In fact, they lay out their plans for charities in 2020:

The Chick-fil-A Foundation will deepen its giving to a smaller number of organizations working exclusively in the areas of education, homelessness and hunger.

The three charities they plan to donate to are Junior Achievement USA, Covenant House International, and local food banks.

Additionally, the Foundation will no longer make multiyear commitments and will reassess its philanthropic partnerships annually to allow maximum impact. These partners could include faith-based and non-faith-based charities.

As you know, they were previously locked into commitments with the SA and FCA charities. Those contracts ended last year, and they did not renew them. Now they are donating to the afore mentioned charities instead.

More people are claiming CFA has abandoned their Christian values by not renewing their donations to these organizations. There's no reason to believe this is anything other than just switching things up. There's plenty of good charities to donate to and it would seem that they have decided to help in different areas. It is clear that they are still making these donations in obedience to their Christian values:

This giving strategy further honors principles set by our founder Truett Cathy, who believed that all people are worthy of care. In 1946, he turned that belief into a company whose business was to take care of others by serving freshly prepared meals with genuine hospitality. . . Truett believed a “great company is a caring company” and his vision of caring for others continues to inspire us today.

Hello everyone! We're so excited to announce today's Headline Corrections Contest! Winners will receive a new flair on r/The_Donald!

Throughout the years, we've all witnessed how dishonest the media can be. No news outlet is perfect and all of them run misleading and extremely partisan headlines. Whether it's the time they said Trump has been relaxing sexual assault rules on campuses, saying Trump inspires radical acts, or claiming that Florida is 10 times more likely not to count absentee ballots, we've all seen how dishonest and slanted the media has been in their attempts to shape people's opinions. And sadly, many people fall for it.

That's why the Headline Corrections Project is so important. We're trying to counter the lies and deception in mainstream media. Here, we are working to bring honesty back into the media by correcting the deception in their headlines. When we correct fake news, we are acting as a journalist spreading the truth to those around us. The freedom of press applies not only to the media, but to all of us.

So today, we're asking all of you to get involved! Find a misleading headline, past or present, and correct it! We recommend having a look around the sub first so you can get an idea how to make these. Details for submissions and rewards for winners are below.

CONTEST DETAILS:

-Download one of the templates that we have available. Or, if you are skilled with photo editing, you can make your own design! Having this photo design for the correction is mandatory; it makes these easy to share on social media.

-You will need screenshots of the original headline, corrected headline (using Inspect Element), and any pieces of information that you used to make the corrected headline. Highlighting relevant text that was used to make the correction is a good idea.

-The corrected headline should maintain a standard of journalistic integrity and professionalism. Corrected headlines should be fact-oriented and should NOT contain personal bias or sarcasm.

-Please archive the original link, and any other webpages that you use. These links will be included in your edited photo. We recommend archive.is, but archive.org works too.

Please don't report people just because you don't like their opinion. That's not what this sub is about. We want people to have dialogue with those they disagree with, as long as it stays civil.

We encourage you to report users who engage in uncivil behavior, or encourage/glorify any form of violence against others.

Keep holding the media accountable.

Welcome & About Us

The Fake News Headline Correction Project is a project to counter the lies and deception in Mainstream Media. We are all about honest corrections to dishonest news headlines.

How to correct a misleading headline:

To correct a headline, use one of the templates that we have available, or make your own if you desire.

You will need screenshots of the original headline, corrected headline (using Inspect Element), and any pieces of information that you used to make the corrected headline. Highlighting relevant text in your screenshot is a good idea.

The corrected headline should maintain a standard of journalistic integrity and professionalism. Corrected headlines should be fact-oriented and should NOT contain sarcasm or personal bias of any kind.

Before making the correction, please archive the original link, and any other webpages that you use. These links will be included in your edited photo. We recommend archive.is, but archive.org works too.

Any additional text is only recommended for summarizing lengthy information. It helps keep these clutter-free and easy to read.

When you post, please put "Headline Correction" before your post title.

Tired of Fake News? Now is your chance to correct some bad reporting from so-called professional journalists. Many people don't read all the way through them, and news sites understand this. Time to fix the headlines.

r/HeadlineCorrections Rules

If there are issues with a headline correction or you believe a correction is still misleading, let us know in modmail. Any appropriate action will be taken, dependent upon moderator discretion. Again, moderators will be nonpartisan in their judgment.
