YouTube Music Desktop

Hello,

some time ago I've developed an unofficial desktop app for youtube music and it has been growing and I would like to spread it now.

It has Last.fm and rainmeter integrations, custom css, media keys, miniplayer, lyrics and growing.

(edit: Works for Windows, Linux and Mac)

Any feedback is welcome, you can get it here:

Have you used the YouTube music toggle in gpmdp? https://www.googleplaymusicdesktopplayer.com/

How does this project differ?

Competition is great. It's always a good thing.

I used it for google play music, and at the time when youtube music was released it didn't have this option, so I stopped using it and after a while I decided to create one for learning.

It's more of an alternative, but over time I want to implement other things.

level 2

Don't know if this is still the case, but the last I checked last.fm doesn't work for YTM on GPMDP.

Damn, this is awesome, thank you so much & great work!

The only 2 things I wish YTM had is queue retaining (if I check the "continue where you left off" option, it'll play the song I was playing before quitting but won't keep the exact same queue) + seamless switching with other devices, but I guess you really can't do anything about it :/

EDIT: Do you think you could add a sort of "pin" icon when the mini-player is active? I'd like it to not be on top of everything sometimes, it makes interacting with some fullscreen apps really difficult when needing to do so.

The 'continue where you left off' for now only works if you stay with the opened bar (showing the cover and list on right).

The pin 'always on top' for mini player will be able to use on the next release.

Thank you.

I also made a YouTube Music desktop app as a little project but I have to be totally honest with you. Your app is amazing, I can see that you put a lot of effort into it and it really deserves a lot more users. Keep up the good work!

My mac refuses to open it because it says you're an unverified developer

level 2

Gotta go to settings -> security then open it there.

Nice! I am going to download it right now. Thanks.

I've used GPMDP so I'll check this out. Will there be support for Remote Play similar to Spotify Connect?

Or rather, Chromecast support where I can use my phone to control the music on my PC?

Original Poster1 point · 2 months ago

Already have an open issue to implement chromecast integration, and I'm already developing a companion app.

Just downloaded but how do i implement rainmeter

level 2
Original Poster1 point · 2 months ago

Open app Settings (gear next to your photo), and select "Integration" on menu then active "Rainmeter"

level 1

Currently testing this out now, looks great.

But I wonder if there's a way to switch from audio only --> music video. It boggles my mind that I can do this on my phone but not on my more powerful PC.

How can I view the lyric?

edit: I found the option, but now the lyric not found

level 2
Original Poster1 point · 1 month ago

Hello, I will change the letter provider, there are many that he does not find unfortunately.

level 1

Thanks for the great YouTube Music desktop program.

Those that are looking for lyrics right click in the program and click the music note.

Also I can not save my changes to the custom theme color under settings. When I try to save it will not save and just stays pink.

Pictures of the new library setup. It works like Google Play Music now, with all the songs from albums saved appearing in the songs list and all the artists of songs saved in the library added to the artists list. Honestly the YTM team is doing an amazing job of rolling out features right now, this is the second rollout I've gotten in two days. Keep up the good work guys!

Hopefully the new UI is next 😉

I was listening to my mixtape on WiFi and then switched over to mobile data and it continued to play the songs I had downloaded on my device (the others say to connect to WiFi to stream). Songs from search always play the downloaded version too. Not sure if this is a gradual rollout or available for everyone but it finally fixes one of the biggest missing features from Google Play Music

Edit: Just found another new feature too, you can now like/dislike songs with the long press menu.

Just got off a chat with YouTube music support since there seems to be a lot of confusion around the rollout of the new UI. They said that it is in a testing phase and has only rolled out to a select amount of users but will roll out to everyone "anytime within the next 2 months"

So as the title says, I have gapless playback on albums I download! This comes after I reached out to support about it. Only problem is that not every album has gapless but hopefully that should be fixed soon!

No Chromecast support on YouTube Music on the web, no chromecast support in the (redesigned) Google Podcasts on the web and much harder to find in the redesigned android app.

Right now I have both YouTube Music and Spotify accounts and I can't understand why a competitor is supporting Google's casting standard better than Google itself.

I was just a little bit skeptical. I have used Spotify and tidal in the past and really liked it honestly was heavily considering going back to title and upgrading my Sprint plan to get that as part of it but for some reason I wasn't able to activate my title Service wouldn't let me go past the welcome screen where it said it was included in my plan. And even went to the store and call customer service to no help so I went back down on my plan and ended up getting the YouTube premium trial. I then learned that YouTube music comes with it also.

I was afraid I wouldn't like it because the quality is only 256 kilobits per second vs 320 on Spotify and tidal which is what I've used previously. I've heard from YouTube that the 256 sounds almost just as good but saved on bandwidth so that's cool too. I love how the app is laid out and how easy it is to use and the suggested songs it's scary how good they are..

It's worth $12 a month to me to have my music subscription and also to have YouTube premium so I can download videos for the road and so I can turn off the screen when something that doesn't really need to be watched and save battery and also acting leave podcast and stories Etc on the phone playing in my pocket with the screen off without worrying about the phone overheating in my pocket or clicking on s*** because the screen is on. It also helps my battery last longer too.

Only thing I need now is an excellent set a podcast to listen to it maybe some talk shows on the SiriusXM app but I'm happiest can be at the moment. It also charges the $12 to my Sprint account which is awesome. Speaking of which random question but do carriers profit from you charging subscriptions through your carrier third-party billing.

The only negative to all of this is I had a $25 gift card and I received as a gift for Google Play. I used $16 of it to purchase the latest episode of Crank Yankers so had $9 remaining. I expected it to take $9 from my balance and apply the other $3 to my bill nope it charge the full thing.

Sorry for the long post.

I was a GPM subscriber from the beginning. At Christmas, someone gave me a Nest Hub with a six month subscription to Spotify so I put my GPM subscription on ice. But last week, I was drawn back in. I missed the 'play some music' command on my Google Home to get a curated playlist (spotify just starts playing from where you left off last time). So I took out a one month trial subscription to YouTube Premium, mainly to get YTM.

But, nope. Nope. Why do I do this to myself? I want YTM to be better than it is. I want it to be as good as I THINK it SHOULD be. But it isn't. I'm like an addict who keeps on coming back, expecting Google to have done better.

After only a week, I'm committing myself to Spotify. Again. Let's see how long it lasts this time.

I would use GPM over YTM if Play Music's now playing screen wasn't absolute shit. Like why did they think it was a good idea to make the album cover so zoomed in. It looks terrible

Hi guys,

I was thinking that maybe you would like to try my extension to add a feature to YouTube Music in order to be able to open songs in YouTube in a new tab. I needed that several times while wanting to send a song to a friend who wasn't on YouTube Music. I also added a shortcut to automatically copy the url in your clipboard.

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/odekbjpmanmghgfppjdkbnechlkacojc

It is fully usable and it works really well ! Don't hesitate to give me feedback or feature requests if you try it, thanks !

Since yesterday new playlists "Presented by YouTube Music" started to appear on my feed https://imgur.com/t31mm7F . Guess these are Spotify's "This is" direct response.

Easy, visit your YouTube profile (logged in) and add "music" at the beginning (URL).

The lack of true radio stations. I love being able to hop on a service and have a station play. I know you can start a station from any track or artist, but I'd love to have stations like Google Play Music has. Maybe I'm missing it it somewhere, if I am, oops.

Just putting this feature request out there. I've submitted feedback through the app a number of times now. Doesn't every other service have this feature now?

Has anybody else experienced this before? When I first got the email, I was terrified because I thought this was happening because of the pandemic. But then I got a follow-up email saying that my next two weeks of YouTube Premium are on them because I stuck with them during this time. I just recently started paying for it again as a result of the pandemic, maybe this is a sign that I should cancel Spotify and come back!

Hey all

Really frustrating-- I try to play an album, the first track plays, and the next track is ALWAYS something from "my mix" on "up next". I just don't get it. Looked at all settings, it isn't on shuffle. It's bizarre and pretty frustrating. Any ideas??

Was liking this platform for the last year or so, other than a few little feature gripes here and there (STILL can't save a queue as a playlist). As of today, a bunch songs in my playlists now have exclamation marks next to them and say "Song is unavailable" when I try to play them. I live in Australia and it's a couple of 5SOS songs and a few other artists that seem to be affected. Apparently the reason for this is that Google/YTM no longer has rights to the song - what? Is this a regular issue for anyone else? Do the songs eventually get restored? If it weren't for YouTube Premium being included with the one subscription fee I'd probably have changed to spotify by now.

It happens 30% of the time, when the music gets paused doesn’t matter if its streaming or downloaded content if I press play so the music can resume, it doesn’t work I have to unlock my iPhone scroll a little bit on the timeline and then it will start playing back (another solution is to press the button to change the song)

Anyone with similar situation?

So my 3-month Apple Music trial is about to end and I’m trying to decide if I should continue paying for it or switch to YTM. I really like Apple Music’s polished look and integration with the ecosystem but I love how YTM syncs with the YouTube app because I discover a lot of music through youtube. Thoughts?

I'll have my playlist on shuffle, have a listen session and when I'm done, I pause it. A few days later I press play on the song that's already there, but I swear it's the same. Same songs, same order that was played on the previous session.

Is this a bug that anyone else is having? Or am I just going crazy
