Ken Shimura died of pneumonia caused by novel coronavirus on Sunday night. The 70-year-old has been described as "Japan’s Robin Williams" and was one of the country's best-known comedians with a career that dates back to the 1970s.

I can’t still believe our greatest comedian has passed away due to coronavirus.  I’m speechless and devastated that he passed away too soon. Ken Shimura gave us countless hours of laughter. He will be incredibly missed.

He's been one of the best & most influencial comedian since late 70's in Japan. We Japanese love this guy a lot. Above all for 50's and under,he is an idol. Rest in peace
