SPOILERS! The Lovcraftian Eldritch Horror that is: Kirby Lore

Kirby, Nintendo's pink puffball and one of their most saccharine game franchises. It has often been joked that despite being an adorable cartoon spheroid who communicates like a teletubby, Kirby is something of a closet badass. "American cover art Kirby is badass" as the old meme goes, but given his truly absurd feats of power, endurance, and endless copy abilities, the more recent joke is that Kirby is some kind of nascent infantile elder thing that could possibly "grow up" and devour all of time and space...

...the funny thing is he quite could be, according to Nintendo themselves. Kirby has always had a dark streak in his games, especially when it came to final bosses such as Zero/02, but recent Kirby games have been kicking it up a notch. I came across an excellent video detailing the story revalations (yes, in a Kirby game) on Youtube. A lot of Lovecraftian elements are starting to emerge in Kirby: Ancient, long extinct civilizations with technology indistinguishable from magic. A cult dedicated to the worship and ressurection of a Dark God capable of destroying worlds. Mortal sacrifices, prophecies, and unsettling similiarities between cutesy hero and eldritch abomination.

So Kirby, fun games for little kids or Lovecraftian cosmic horror?

Sticks and stones.
They say if you sacerice 20 human beans on an eclipse, the pink ball of death known menacingly as... Kirby will appear and devour the world.

So what I got from this is that Kirby is the reborn eldritch abomination that has reverted to a childlike state where he is mostly concerned with enjoying himself, protecting his friends and helping those in need.

Long ago the Ancients fought this eldritch horror and managed to defeat it and excise the abominations evil from it's body. The body then takes on the form of a small pink ball of perpetual cheriiness and reverting to a childlike mindset. Where the body became good, the evil that was excised took form in the the void between worlds, gathering power and planning to invade the mortal world once more. Using Hyness and the Jambandran Cult to build a it body in the shape of the cult's god, the Void Terminus, the Void Soul takes over the body of the newly born godling before it was defeated by Kirby, the reformed body of the ancient horror, and banished back into the void.

This is coming from someone who knows nothing of Kirby beyond that Kirby is a small pink ball of childlike cheeriness that can eat almost anything.

With all of the cosmic horrors running around, I am starting to think that Kirby was actually created as a defense system by an unknown precursor civilization, although he was intently implanted with a bumbly personality to make sure that he would not go overboard with the destruction of said horrors.

IT THIRSTS IN THE DEEPS, IT HUNGERS IN THE DARKNESS BETWEEN THE STARS, ANCIENT WHEN SUMAR WAS YOUNG. THE STARS SHALL BURN THEN DROWN IN BLOOD AND TEARS. IT IS a children's game.

Yeah, show this to the one who say nintendo games are for children.

Serusly, nintendo, and, kirby would be the last thigs. you will asosiate with the words cosmic lovercraftian horror.

I meant W.T.F Nintendo ?!

The director of said game confirmed that shiver star was destroyed by an ancient apocalipse that freeze the planet

He also confirmed that said apocalipse didnt destroyed said species, it just pushed them to flee the planet altogether

Shiver star is covered in ice, it resembles earth with a scary level of detail, it's full of factories, and the final boss is a giant robot with an abandoned city as background

Yeah humanity is canon in the Kirby verse, and it could still be around

Where did that happen? I have never watched or listened to any of those guys until the Kirby lore videos, and I’m curious to see the whole incident where Woolie taught Pat all about how deep Kirby lore is.
It was a slow burning thing, people started to notice paterns in the game storylines and enemies (specialy how comon dark matter was, i think he appeared in 3 games one after the other)

Shit hit the fan after return to Dreamland and nintendo has, for once, embraced the lore, now every instance of the saga (that is almost anual currently) brings new lore details with star friend being the most lore heavy of them all

I was talking about Woolie talking about Kirby lore to Pat, not Kirby lore itself, which I’ve known about already for a long time.

Also, thanks daedalus725!
