Coronavirus COVID-19 – current issues

We are updating this page with information about the coronavirus and the University of Oulu's guidelines for preparedness.

Prevent coronavirus infections in the same way as other respiratory tract infections:

  • Stay at home when ill.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water. If these are not available, use alcoholic hand sanitisers. Use disposable towels to dry your hands. Do not use shared towels.
  • Avoid handshakes and use touchless ways of greeting
  • Cough or sneeze into a paper handkerchief or the crook of your elbow or the upper  sleeve.
  • Discard used handkerchief in the trash as soon as you can and always wash your hands after blowing your nose.

What to do if you suspect a coronavirus infection

If you suspect a coronavirus infection, you should primarily contact the hospital or health centre in your own area by phone. Additional information for students is available on the website of the Finnish Student Health Service: https://www.yths.fi/en/news/2020/current-information-concerning-the-coro...

Occupational Health Care Mehiläinen can be reached through Oma Työterveys telephone service or a digital clinic.

The national helpline will assist you at 029 553 5535 on weekdays at 8:00–21:00 and on Saturdays at 9:00–15:00. The helpline provides general information about the coronavirus but no health counselling or guidance in case of acute symptoms.
