Comic 146: Lootbox Battlefront
Comments:
Serves him right. Maybe it’ll get him to stop destroying good studios. Maybe he’ll make good games without intrusive Microtransactions. And maybe Penguins will start break dancing and rapping.
Yeah, would take a lot for him to change...
Its so nice to see EA getting intimidated by someone else bigger than him. XD
Better add Respawn Entertainment as another tombstone.
Indeed :3
Also yeah... I don't see Respawn lasting too long under EA
Which is why I made the suggestion of all the companies pledging support for Nintendo... except for EA, in a corner destroying a studio while demanding another put intrusive microtransactions into their game while Respawn looks on, wondering what sort of deal with the devil they just made.
As a Disney shareholder, I am disappointed to see damage to the reputation of a very lucrative IP.
Grab a shovel, EA.
Yeah, EA's gonna regret this...
MOUSED!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, EA is getting the D! Get your mind out of the gutter.
Can't think of a better example of poetic justice. I am sure there are better examples, but it just feels right.
Indeed x3 Feels kinda satisfying to see...
When you try to be the most evil corporation but you accidentally invoke an even greater evil instead.
Now how do you like THAT, EA?
And EA just dug the grave even deeper by sticking to their guns even when there was already a cosmetics system in place even though they said it wasn’t feasible and was already on the disc
Ooh... not making it better for yourself...
Heh. I am glad you included Origin System. And then they robbed the grave and used the logo for their game client.
Next time there should be a freshly dug up grave prepared with BioWare (I think they are next to be killed for good).
Honestly, Disney is not doing anything out of some sense of justice. Once the next SW movie is out, they themselves will scam people on merch practices.
They did not stop EA because it was wrong practice but because of possible IP damage and once that is cleared, they will not care if the gambling is back again in some reformed way. Sigh.
Hence the above comment about EA awakening an even greater evil than himself. But yeah, every company out there, no matter how seemingly nice, has committed acts of massive greed and avarice upon the consumer. I respect Nintendo, I like a lot of their games, especially now, but I have to acknowledge that they’ve done extremely scummy things in the past.
Maybe nowhere near as bad as EA, but she’s killed a few studios herself from what I remember. I have lost respect for Sony for continuing to try to push Battlefront II on the consumer even with all the negative attention on it.
Yup! I agree with your comment as well!
Mm. I can see that. With Nintendo most scummy practices were related to other companies and they often fought over technology like chips or such.
HOWEVER
I cannot look away from their miserable attempts at YouTube policing or LPers. That was weird though. I do not think ANYONE ever proved that LPing and streaming kills profits. Sure, you have people who prefer to watch games but... Come on. Those people would never buy the game anyway. Or they would pirate it.
I think with Nintendo a lot has to do with their somewhat outdated look on the gaming culture. Pretty outdated if you ask me. Haha.
True, seems more like it would be to protect their own IP and stop the drama around it...
With any luck, EA will cause ticket sales for The Last Jedi to go down, because the only thing corporations understand is money. There was apparently a clause in the contract that stated that if EA did harm unto the Star Wars brand Disney deserved the right to prematurely pull their right to produce the video games under the Star Wars license.
Unfortunately, I myself am conflicted. I want to do this, but my brothers already reserved tickets and one of them is deploying overseas shortly and they’re both massive Star Wars fans. That and I haven’t seen them in a while.
I think there is no chance of Battlefront 2 hurting The Last Jedi's sales. Even if some people choose to boycott Star Wars, it will be such a small group that it will make no difference.
Too bad there's few other ways for EA to learn their lesson...
Dude, in that case leave it alone ago see the movie with your bros :D
I always go to see a new SW movie with my bro alone. So it has been quite some time when the previous one came out since... well, Episode 3!
The feeling of being with your bro and talking while absolutely everything else disappears from your brain is more worth than... this crap.
But I doubt it is going to have any significant impact on the movies or Star Wars. Star Wars based games at most, yeah. Shame, really. LucasArts was simply so much better when they also had a say in the matter. Why did they shut them down :/
Just saw it. Honestly could see every twist coming.
Who would've thought giant mouse ears would be threatening.
Beware the Mouse!
I love how Disney is represented by a Mickey Mouse wearing some Darth Vader-themed attire. I find that funny! EA QUIVERS BEFORE THE MICKEY MOUSE!
As for my view on what happened... EA deserves the flack. Part of the reason for my dislike of them is how they use their games for money. You can't just rush out a half-finished game and expect people to enjoy it. Gamers aren't blind, you know. We may be pretty dumb at times, but we'd rather not fall for obvious scams.
Man! That got a bit deep, didn't it? Anyways, great comic as always.
Yeah x3 Was actually supposed to just be a suit but it's kinda hard to make out from the dramatic dark shading, but I also like that interpretation x3
And agree, not much of a fan of what EA is doing either...
Thanks!
I'm hearing the most unsettling mix of Marlon Brando and Mickey Mouse while I read the end dialogue. It is not the super awesome thing it should be, and is rather disturbing instead.
Haha x3

As many of you might have seen, EA have had a lot of controversy around Star Wars Battlefront and lootboxes/cost of ingame items, making excuses that ended up as the most downvoted post on Reddit... ending in them just removing the ability to buy the "crystals" used for lootboxes (it's even said that Disney, who owns the Star Wars franchise, got involved in getting them to take them down)
