Overview and Objectives of the Project On September 18, 2018 at Goldsmiths London University, after a speech by Prof. Yamagiwa, Kyoto University President, a MoU(Memorandum of Understanding) between Goldsmiths, University of London, and the Graduate School of Advanced Integrated Studies in Human Survivability (GSAIS), Kyoto University was exchanged. Its purpose is to promote research collaboration and information exchange between these two universities. Based on this MoU, GSAIS, whose eight major research/education areas include art, tries to bridge science/technology and new art, such as media art, hoping that such activities will be recognized at global level. As one of such activities, GSAIS is going to hold an international symposium on art and science. This symposium, organized through the collaboration among Goldsmiths, GSAIS and other partner universities in Kyoto, aims to promote research/education activities in this interdisciplinary area through collaborations among faculty members and students in these organizations and to spread the charm and value of culture, art, and science in Kyoto from academic point of view expecting that such activities would be widely recognized and accepted by Kyoto citizens. At the same time it is expected that such activities would be one of the contributions from Kyoto University to Kyoto City, which has been recognized as an academic and cultural city.
