So I am currently doing a third play through and I noticed something extremely odd, but knowing how intelligent the community here is, I'm sure you all already caught it by now. When sparing quiets life and taking her back to Mother Base, the scene with the harrier chasing you down starts. The quick description of your location will say you are 1,900 miles away from Mother Base. Now let me get this straight, you're telling me this helicopter has a range of 2,000 miles+ in one tank of gas? This helicopter is based off of the S-70 Sikorsky, and the Sikorsky has a maximum flying distance of 288 US miles or 463KM, way too small to even get close to Mother Base, any thoughts on this?
(This is my first attempt at a theory so please bear with me)
So, since getting back into the story of MGSV, Ishmael has been on my mind a lot. During the prologue of the game Ishmael, who appears to be fellow patient with his face covered in bandages, seems to come out of nowhere to save our hide multiple times during the escape from the hospital. In Mission 46, where we replay the hospital level, it's revealed that Ishmael had been Big Boss the whole time, and his appearance as a fellow patient had been a hallucination. And while I don't dismiss this as Canon, I believe there is another possibility. And no, not that Ishmael is a hallucination.
I believe that Ishmael may in fact be a third person, not Big Boss, and not Venom's imaginary friend either.
The main piece of evidence that lead me to start thinking in this direction is Ishmael's claim "I've been watching over you for nine years" which is a pretty odd thing to say. We know Big Boss was in a coma alongside Venom for at least a good bit of those 9 years, so he wasn't in the position to do much watching. And while this could just be a figure of speech and on its own doesn't mean much, this is the point that got the ball rolling for me.
The most unusual thing about Ishmael being Big Boss is the logic behind it. If Venom is meant to be a body double to protect Big Boss, why is Big Boss the one guarding him? Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose? If the point of Venom being a body double is to give Big Boss the freedom he needs to build Outer Heaven, why is he spending his time disguised as a patient?
Then of course is Ishmael's appearance. To put it mildly he doesn't look much like Big Boss under those bandages, not to mention he has both eyes. While it's been suggested he's wearing a mask and/or glass eye, there doesn't seem to be much evidence for this. But his appearance doesn't matter, right? After all, his appearance as a bandaged patient is a hallucination, we see what he really looks like in the ambulance during Mission 46 right?
And this is were things started to fall into place for me. Remember, we never actually see Ishmael get into the ambulance, at least to my knowledge. My belief is that the man in the ambulance with us is not the same as the man in the hospital with us. In essence, Ishmael helps us escape the hospital, and Big Boss drives the ambulance.
This would explain why Ishmael is able to move around so well, load a gun with ease and wrestle Quiet. Unlike Big Boss, whose body atrophied during his coma, Ishmael is in great shape. It's also not hard to believe that Venom would mistakingly see Ishmael and Big Boss as the same person, considering the other hallucinations he has during this segment.
So if Ishmael is a third person, who is he? Well, I believe there is at least one person who makes sense in this scenario: Frank Jaeger.
I know, I know. We've all heard the "Venom is Gray Fox" theory but that's not what this is, I promise.
Before I begin; I am fully aware of the cut content of mission 51 and the resolution it gives to the liquid/mantis/English strain plot threads.
However, as it is not in the game I want to assume that it was meant to be cut and Kojima wasn’t made to cut it out; For this reason, I want to assume that episode 51 is not canon - why would something cut out of a game be considered canon? For example, ‘The Document of MGS2’ Is full of examples of cut content from that game but none of it is considered canon.
My question is, if mission 51 is not canon, has anyone worked out a way that the current ending of liquid/mantis/English strain included in the game fits into the existing timeline in their head canon?
I want to believe 51 was cut on purpose rather than Kojima being forced to cut it.
This post is a Plea to All of Kojimadom to connect! We are trying to make a full Strand Contract web we are calling Bridges 3. We want to see if there are any "Nuclear Disarmament" style hidden endings or undiscovered strand game mechanics in #DeathStranding. Help us find out! Let's connect! #TomorrowIsInYourHands
This video explains how we can do this: https://youtu.be/XXLSN2w1-8M
One of the latest leaked image of the Death Stranding artbook shows a woman seated in a what looks like a mechanical chair. She has a mantle above her face, not letting see what she looks like.
This woman is most likely Lisa,Sam's mom,and the reason they have a mantle above her face is to not show her right eye not being there due to Cliff shooting her.
And she could also be the White Dressed Amelie we ser at the end of DS,the one who told us we are still connected, and showing us the 5 figures in the sky. This could be explained by how since Lisa is connected to the chair, she is connected to the beaches,or even her brain being used for something like the chiral network.
Only catch is i need you to run 3 missions with me once I give you the game. Oh and its on PC
Something that really bugs me about Snake Eater is that I can't seem to remember The Sorrow ever interacting with Ocelot, his own son. Is there any point where the The Sorrow does talk to Ocelot, outside of the comics which I don't consider Canon? And if not, why? Why does The Sorrow interact with both Big Boss during Operation Snake Eater and Snake near the end of MGS4, but never his own son?
Lately I've been thinking more and more about Phantom Pain and I really want to sink my teeth into it again. Are there any good long analysis videos that look at the oddities and inconsistencies of the game? Stuff like PythonSelkan used to make.
This is a response to this comment by u/RyojinOrion
If you feel like something is missing by the end of the game, that was the entire point. That is the definition of "Phantom Pain". (Me)
I honestly dislike that "explanation". A Phantom Pain is feeling something that you used to have but lost, not feeling something that was never there to begin with. We never had a chapter 3, so we can't feel phantom pain from it. (Ryojin)
The phantom pain does not come from chapter 3.
The entire narrative of the game is designed to make you feel like you've lost something. Kazuhira, once a hopeful and fun character, is now reduced to a hateful man bent on revenge. Huey, the lovable and eccentric scientist, loses all his charm as he is revealed as a habitual liar and likely the murderer of his lover. Quiet, redeemed only through her relationship with Venom, is forced into exile and probable death. Eli and the children being fostered flee with Sahalanthropus, effectively stealing all semblance of pride from Diamond Dogs. Sahalanthropus, a trophy of triumph, and the children; a hope for innocence in a world ruled by a cycle of despair.
Even the true ending is specifically designed to take from the player. Venom literally loses his identity, and his future. A microcosm for what the patriots would inflict upon the world. This was all completely intentional. Kojima went on record to say that V leaves a blank space by its conclusion, and that blank space is to be filled by each player.
The blank space is the Phantom Pain.
Food for thought, there is a lot of concept art depicting Punished Snake next to a Rhodesian ridge hound and the only dog we get in the game is DDog, a husky wolf dog.
The only Rhodesian dogs in the game? The opening scene of Ground Zeroes, owned by Skull Face and XOF?
Indicative of something big? Change of direction? You tell me.
Part 1 mainly talks about the first tape in TPP, as well as the broad overall historical and geopolitical context surrounding Cyprus and the Middle East, stretching all the way back to the 19th Century. I also delve into Pinoccio, Orwell's Inside the Whale, and lots of other stuff I'd bet my bottom dollar's worth looking into.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emdU7ojzTyc
Part 2, released today, applies some of that context to the tapes themselves. And we jump from Cyprus into Cuba, and in turn, the GZ tapes. Friend to the channel and all around badass Italian Joe has suggested wearing headphones for this one, cuz we do a ton of analyzing sounds. Get your directional mics ready!
I'm going somewhere big with this, I genuinely think I've cracked the 'Return to Camp Omega' thing. Let's see if we can't figure all this out together!
Ways V lies to you:
- Tape on the backside of the XOF soldiers, the same helmet model features the Diamond Dogs logo on the spot where the tape is, for example on Perquad
- XOF uses the same choppers as Diamond Dogs, yet all enemy gunships use the same model as MSF in Ground Zeroes
- You get tapes that refer to occurens that happen LATER, like skullfaces death: "he said the third strain is close to you"
- Skullface is a man without a face, and a specifically big scar where Venoms horn is (you create Venom as you want, so is no way for KJP to know how the real Venom will look like, hence Skullface is without a face, a blank space)
- Ground Zeroes Kaz talks like Pazs lie suprised him as well but at the end of Peace Walker he admits he knew of Pazs real identity
- Medic has the same voice as Big Boss but low pitched because in his mind they can´t sound the same simultaneously
- When you smoke the Phantom Cigar (the phantom of Big Bosses real cigars) the smoke is digital, how could you see digital smoke in real life? The same thing goes for the Idroid which is not only way more advanced than what you get in later chronological MGS events, but also a never again seen holographic technology (a plus for the simulation theory)
- Mosquito thinks Big Boss is accountable for old Mother Bases destruction (to sell the world? To create Venom? Venoms memories of the chopper crash can entirely be fake, in fact we saw how easily his mind can change the memories when you first "met" Paz at new Mother base)
- Kaz is the XO of Diamond Dogs, he´s giving most calls while Venom follows, the times Venom gives orders which go against Kaz he gets angry like a child because effectively he has to follow orders from a puppet of Big Boss and/or Cipher
I’m giving it a go over to settle once and for all everything that I still don’t understand. I intend to try out Nuclears Theory of removing the Replay tags to see if anything interesting happens, as well as paying close attention to Awakening and TRUTH for inconsistencies.
As of now I feel a good portion of the unsolved and lingering questions have been answered, maybe 66%, but it’s that final third that keeps me up at night. I’ll post if I find something cool, if anyone has any suggestions of things to try on my NG, leave a comment.
Hey guys,
I just noticed something which I'm sure it's pretty unimportant, but I thought you folks would find intriguing. Looking at the helicopter number during cutscenes, it shows E-52-3. What I find interesting is how the design of the E and the numbers are made to mirror each other. Like the E and the 3 are the same just, same for the 5 and the 2, like if it's a mirror version of themselves.
