As more Turkish soldiers get killed by the Assad regime and his allies (Iran + Russia), the dynamic could indeed be the opposite. With Erdogan forced to act decisively as to save face in front of the popular opinion in Turkey. Regardless of his original intention in Idlib.

The last time a state mocked Turkey insistent demands in Syria, it was the Americans in the East of the Euphrates. That did not work well for them. Naturally the Russians =/= the Americans but the recent history is indicative of the Turks' determination.

Turks leaders are doing their best to prevent a military confrontation and Assadists/Russians/Iranians leaders are doing their best to force it upon Turkey throat. Rumours are Russians even got the nerve to demand a full withdrawal of oppositions force up to the M4 highway.
