Improve search feature

The search feature should be improved to include more search results. For example, "edworthy open source" displays no results.

    There are a number of issues with the existing search facility.

    1. By default, the search results provide only entries that have been created within the last 24 hours and there is no option to view entries that are over a year old.

    Therefore I suggest adding a "any time" option and providing this by default.

    1. Search does not allow for simple multiple keyword entries. As demonstrated within @javanick's original example, if I use the keywords "edworthy open source" then nothing is displayed, even though I (medworthy) have used the term "open source" within several previous posts and blog articles.

    2. No boolean options. As an example, if I wanted to search for content that contains the term "open" but also doesn't contain the term "source" I would expect to be able to use something similar to "+open -source" as part of the keywords / search condition.

    I think that it would be useful to also create a supplementary "advanced search" facility.

    Based upon various search engines (and mainly the "advanced search" functionality that is provided by startpage.com) I have sketched an user interface concept based on this idea.

    @medworthy thanks for the suggestions and work on this. I agree we need an advanced search option and more accurate results. also better auto-suggestions. will talk with the team about escalating this on priority list, just a lot going on as usual.

    @jotto141 & @markeharding,
    Instead of trying to fix the first point that I made within my original comment, I have just noticed that the year time frame has been removed and been replaced with a maximum time frame of 30 days.

    Could someone please explain the logic of this change, as it seems to be counterproductive and perverse (are the staff really attempting to suggest that no users would want to search for content that has been posted beyond 30 days ago)?

    @markeharding @jotto141 Please incorporate a search by calendar or Date function. Sometimes I can't remember keywords to search for.. but, I remember about what time frame that a post was posted.. if I could pull up a calendar and click on a specific day.. then it shows all post for that day.. from the main newsfeed.. also within each Channel.. (depending on if you search from the main newsfeed page or from a Channels page.) click on 2 dates and it shows all post from those specific days,weeks,months... or years! Combine that with a Keywords search... and that would make finding our old content much easier! Thanks for your consideration!:v:

      @ottman It's an issue that has a lot of scope. There are specific issues related to this one, but we can close this since it's not particularly useful

      It would be most helpful to move the productive suggestions from the comments here into the description rather than closing it.

      I have to agree with @ottman. Considering that there is quite a lot of information within this ticket (especially my first two comments), I also think that it would be appropriate to keep this ticket open until there are some resolutions implemented.

      @medworthy can you create issues for each of the major issues in this thread so we can add them into the Search epic and close this issue? &94

      Mark Edworthy @medworthy · 1 month ago

      @ottman,
      I could split the above into individual tickets but considering that you have actual contracted / employed staff members, this administration task maybe more appropriate for an actual staff member.

      However I am more then happy to provide help and support, and have asked other MCOSI members to review the above suggestions and if necessary provide further ideas within the next couple of days.

      Kyaaaarrrr! OP has hit on a KEY issue. One of the main problems, currently, re: MINDS #SEO algorithms is a LOT of legacy and "key-word" group search results are being effectively suppressed. Whether intentional or simply an open-sourced #SNAFU is up 2 the peanut gallery to decide. JR

    We have new designs and new search functionality under way. You can chart the progress on this epic here. I'll keep this card open so we can make sure we take this feedback into consideration
