Turkish #reinforcements in #Idlib: - coincide w/ #Russia's desire for #Turkey taking more responsibility in region, less grey zone; - reduce anxiety among civilians and humanit.costs of #SAA ops; - open space for further talks with new dynamics on the ground, less #FSA more #TSK;

Note: pretty interesting development in joint RU-TR patrols in N.#Syria. Refusal of #Turkey to join patrols may be interpreted as lack of importance of security situation in border regions in Ankara's eyes, invites #Russia to use it against Turkish #military presence in future.

Broader implications: -Hopes for Turkey's mediation between #Russia & #Ukraine; -Facilitation of Ukraine's integration into #NATO via #Turkey; -No clarity about future of joint efforts in #BlackSea; -Turkey tries to leverage Russia with Ukraine, but without directly provoking it;

thus the decision was made to deploy #Turkish troops in-between. The lack of coordination with #Russia (to avoid leak of information to SAA) and failure of #Russia to discourage Ankara from directly disrupting ongoing offensive was eventually exploited by #SAA who harassed TSK.

Note: it all seems like a provocation by #SAA. #Russia had explained goals & scope of operation to Turkish counterparts, but apparently Ankara has little trust in #Russia's ability to restrain #Assad forces which could go beyond M4 highway, espec. around #Saraqib +

Russian MoD said #Russian and #Turkish command maintain communication through deconflict line. Evacuation of the wounded Turkish servicemen to the territory of #Turkey was swiftly organized (me: by Turkish helicopter that was allowed into Syrian airspace).
