#France has announced its deployment of 600 extra troops to the #Sahel 2 days ago (>5k soldiers there in total)... #Paris wants other #EU states to send more troops there too. The comment below assumes Paris' current #Libya policy enhances security in the Sahel. It doesn't.

In short, yes it is naive.

What's ironic about this is Macron is essentially justifying increased French unilateralism under the guise of advancing "European" interests. The geographic proximity of Russia doesn't necessarily imply shared interests with European states.

I’ve lost count of how many times Macron has said “I am not naive” when discussing his Russia policy. He repeated it again now standing next to Duda. “France is neither pro nor anti-Russia, it is pro-European”, and he repeats that Russia is geographically in Europe... #Poland

Not an accurate assumption or depiction of what happened in #Tripoli or other cities in #Libya that had to bear witness to terrible crimes residents of #Benghazi or #Derna or #Sebha experieced between 2014-2019 not to mention that capital experienced several wars in that time too

Why do people only speak of division now? #Benghazi was a ghost town at 1 point. Home by 9 on Thursday if we even went out. No schools. No restaurants. Weddings were 5-7 pm! It was raining

The amount of heavy weaponry transferred by the #UAE to Eastern #Libya dwarfs what #Turkey has provided to Western #Libya. On another note, I doubt this volume of weaponry could be manned by #Haftar's Libyan forces. If deployed, these weapons will likely be manned by foreigners. twitter.com/YorukIsik/stat

#Haftar visiting an Indian restaurant in Benghazi... A common tale (alluded to in tweet below) is that Benghazi's private sector is booming now thanks to security provided by #Haftar's #LAAF. The reality is that it'd be abnormal for business activity not to return post-war.
