(bug): Minds User notifications misleading users by linking to Minds channel

Summary

After making a sidebar boost of my channel for 2.5 tokens, and when that boost was completed, I received a notification that my boost for 'Luculent' was completed.

However, the notification contained the Minds avatar. Thinking this was rather odd, I decided to click that avatar in the notification, and much to my surprise, it took me to a Minds Pro page!

The optics are that Minds has hijacked my boost.

I should hope that this is certainly not the case, but I have no way of knowing if my channel was boosted or not.

Im sure you can appreciate my hyperbole.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a sidebar boost of your channel
  2. wait for the 'completion' notification
  3. If it contains the Minds avatar, click on it
  4. You will be taken to a Minds Pro page as depicted in the attached video

Platform information

Firefox 68.4.1 esr Debian 10 Buster

What is the current bug behavior?

A completed boost is shown by notification to be something other than the true object boosted

What is the expected correct behavior?

The object being boosted should be boosted, and the notification should reflect as such.

Hi @luculent, behind the scenes, that notification is coming from the Minds user, so when you are clicking the avatar, it is taking you to the user's page like the other notifications.

You'll be glad to know I don't think this has impacted your boost at all, but nonetheless I can see how it feels a bit odd in terms of UX.

      @benhayward.ben

It seems odd to me that this is the only notif I have ever received that behaves this way...so I hope your saying that one way or another, something is wrong with it.

LOL...I never really thought it affected my boost, but I have no way of knowing, and you dont seem all that positive about that either; its not like there have not been boosting issues at least since the summer.

Is this something we can expect from now on? The new 'normal'...or whats the story; because the optics do not look good imho.

Look guys...if this isnt going to be addressed...we may need to bring it to the communities attention a bit more pointedly.

Please dont tell me this is part of another upgrade that seems more like a downgrade.

Where do you think it should direct? Please turn this issue into an actual suggestion.

This is different Bill...in the past, it simply redirected to my channel. Also, its new to see the Minds avatar vs my own, as it has been for years prior.

With all due respect, is this a new way to advertise Minds Pro?

So my suggestion is to either leave it the way its always been, or please announce these things before you make your changes live.

      No, this was unintentional.

Thank you...so its either a bug or a glitch...which is what I wanted to know.

We need to know what to tell people when they ask.
