Martian Magazine (a "bait" comic)

Long time lurker back again with another comic I've seen spread around, This time on a website called Martian Magazine (tho I've heard it be called Woodworm) (http://martianmagazine.com/)

Yeah it's another one of those "bait" political comics, like stone toss and red panels, but this time he at least was able to not rip off red panels like stone toss did. There really should be an article on these bait comics.
the ones that use political humor to bait people in the comments to argue. it's all annoying edgy humor that you'd see reposted all over Funnyjunk and make it to the front page.

What's really strange is some comics are just dumb jokes with a bear and fox and even earlier ones have it. It's just weird.

What's your thoughts?

I dunno, I actually like this one better than Stone Toss or Red Panels. The humor has a certain "so bad it's good" quality that seems to be intentional, which makes it stand out. Although I might be wrong about that and the author is just so bad at making jokes that it wraps around and becomes funny to me again.

Edit: Looking through the archive, yeah the anti-comedy is definitely intentional, and a lot of the strips aren't trying to make any kind of political or social commentary.

After looking at the comic some more, there are definitely quite a few Stone Toss tier alt-right political comics, along with comics that are just shocking and offensive for the sake of being shocking and offensive. But there are still quite a lot of them I enjoy. I liked dark, absurd humor, and this guy has some talent for it. This one is just sublime:

Dude did a Zen Pencils parody:

It's a mixed bag for sure. The writer seems as much a general misanthrope and edgelord as an alt-right advocate. He makes a lot of comics where the punchline is the main characters being sadistic for no reason (like the Zen Pencils parody above) as well as a lot of ones that end in a weird, disturbing non-joke. There's enough variety that it doesn't get stale. I would say it's worth at least taking a look at if you like dark humor.

I will say the ones where he makes a serious political point are definitely the weakest. It's straight Stone Toss tier humor but seems to come less from a feeling of unearned superiority than of extra strong contempt for modern sacred cows (compared to the normal level of contempt this guy seems to have for EVERYONE). It's still not really funny and doesn't offer much to people who don't agree with him, although the art is better because this guy can draw a wider variety of characters and a LOT more perspectives. I definitely prefer the comics that are either non-political or start like they're going to be political and then take a weird, disturbing turn at the end, like the asexual comic above. They're like parodies of modern political cartoons, which is why it's even more awkward that he's mixing in more straightforward political cartoons.

Also, there's a Jontron cameo!

Effort put into little details like this are another thing that make this better than the average bait comic.

So yeah, your mileage may vary and there are definitely things here that will offend people, but I wouldn't call the whole comic bad. In fact in some ways... it's good? But that's just my opinion.

The website SUCKS though. No archive makes trying to find any particular comic a pain. The "About" section is funny though.

Is this a Poe?  Just from the few comics I've seen it comes off as satire of political comics.

That's what it seems like most of the time, but then you get pages like this:

Which seems to be playing it completely straight. This is exactly like something from Stone Toss, except better drawn.

eh...
the fox and bear ones are decent enough. like @fallinq says, can't tell if it's ironic or just bad sometimes. feels like a bit of both?

not really my thing despite enjoying dark edgy humor
[+] Spoiler
the asexual one being my least favorite. then again, i'm skeptical of asexuality now a days but not being interested in sex or romance isn't the end of the world. some people enjoy being single after all. can't blame them, horniness can cloud one's mind with lewd shit. even i'm guilty of this.
[+] Spoiler
though, kudos for still being kinda funny

This guy is connected in some way to stone toss because he makes a cameo in the third panel of this page in the wanted poster.

I don't hate this one. I think some of these are funny. The only reason why I don't like it is because I would have gone for a straight satire of political cartoons.
