    Qataris reacted with disbelief and disappointment. Some went so far as to doubt whether there may have been a mistake in the phrasing of the amendment. Others saw it as a sign that there's worse to come.

    Imperative now that Qatar’s Ministry of Interior clarify statements made in ’s article regarding penalties for failure to notify

    Qatar introduced today the long awaited reform of its abusive exit permit system for migrant workers. As with previously introduced reforms, it is a watered down version of what was promised, and its domestic workers who get the short end of the stick.

    Seems the Peninsula article seems to be misinformed. Domestic workers have the right to leave . The decision says they should inform employer at least 72 hours beforehand but no mention of sanctions. Qatar should clarify that employers cannot stop or punish DWs for leaving

    This is so disappointing. We had our hopes up but yet again there are qualifiers that means the exit permit is not completely abolished.

    Different interpretation from earlier MOI statement on the details of the new exit permit reform here. Hoping text of the law is published today to better understand what this requirement to notify will really mean for domestic workers

    Under the new law domestic workers do not need an approval to leave the country, they simply need to inform their employer verbally or in writing.
