    The 3000-year-old Great Synagogue of Aleppo is since 3 years back undergoing massive restoration by the Sephardic Heritage Museum in cooperation with the Chief Rabbi of Syria. It contains a huge cemetery of Syrian Jews through history, and over 200 graves have been recovered now.

  2. Negotiations are being finalized with the Chinese company ”SOI” for a contract to establish a silica plant for quartz sand, with a production capacity of 100 000 tons annually at a value of $67 million for one year. The project is expected to begin this year.

  3. The thermal plant in Aleppo consists of five steam generating sets, each with a capacity of producing 312 MW, and an emergency gas turbine of 35 MW.

  10. According to the Ministry of Tourism, Syria welcomed 2.4 million tourists in 2019 - an increase of 31% from 2018. This is the highest number Syria has seen since the war broke out, as the country hosted 8.5 million tourists pre-war in 2010.

  11. 12 tourism investment projects from the Syrian Investment Forum, held in October 2019, have been booked and granted for Syrian investors in Damascus, Latakia, Tartous and Aleppo.

    Souk Al-Khabieh has seen about 50% restoration so far, and is estimated to be completed in two months. Rubble and debris has been removed, the main building is being restored and a new cover/ceiling is being installed. The lighting of the souk will run on solar energy.

  20. In its first regular session of 2020, the Damascus Governorate Council stated that most of the damaged schools in Damascus governorate will see restoration this year.

  29. The Greek Orthodox Church of the Dormition of our Lady in Aleppo is under restoration since 2018. The church lies in the Christian neighbourhood of Jdeydeh of old Aleppo, and dates back to the 15th century. It is home to many valuable items of the famous Aleppine school.

    According to the Ministry of Local Administration, 9000 homes were rehabilitated (compared to 30 000 in 2018) at an estimated cost of 6.9 billion SYP in 2019. Work’s underway to rehabilitate 3188 more in the Damascus, Daraa, Aleppo, Homs, Deir Ezzor, Hamah & Latakia governorates.

  35. A peace initiative in Harasta on the 12-meter long and 2.5 meter high outer wall of the Mohammed Adnan Mahmalji secondary school was financed by UNHCR and completed after 5 days by its Syrian partner the Syrian Trust for Development - with the help of local students & residents.

  37. The big contrast between 2018 and 2019 can be explained with the fact that after that many areas were retaken by the SAA during 2018 (Daraa, Homs countryside, eastern Ghouta, Dumayr pocket, smaller part of Idlib and southern Damascus), homes were quickly rehabilitated.
