Which Syrians? Very few supporters of either Assad or the PYD would relish rule by the warlords now in control of much of northern Syria, which is what this policy amounts to. Can't say for sure but probably would be a lot less dead if Syria got the Libya treatment. Forget about what rule people prefer, keeping assad in power has led to 10x the death of Libya, not to mention the industrial scale torture.
