I worked at a library that did this before I started. It was done without consulting anyone with a cataloging background. Such a hot mess. Spent months undoing it. Patrons couldn't find anything. Not a fan.

I think it can be done well, but as you say, you need input from people who can think through the classification decision-making process. And you need to make things as easy as possible for people who are worried about finding specific things.

So who's assigning the call number when it ain't on oclc?

No call number, they're doing genres. I can't tell if it's straight-up BISAC or BISAC-informed, the messaging about what the replacement is hasn't been particularly good in my opinion.

What are you reading about re: "e-Dewey-ing library"? Am doing assignment on stereotypes and othering for a core BA unit. Have to relate concepts back to my major studies of librarianship. Would be interested in reading some of your research.
