I am not actively maintaining aiksaurus. The kind folks from Abiword have taken over the project and it is now at http://aiksaurus.sourceforge.net/.
The contents of the web pages here will stay the same. You can access this stuff for historic purposes or whatever.
News
- Java Aiksaurus
- Amazingly, Rich Robinson has taken the time to port the Aiksaurus
core library to Java. You can download an executable version (jar)
here, or the source here.
This has a number of practical benefits, in particular it should increase
the portability of the PHP version significantly. It should also be a good
basis for any future work in, say, a Java Aiksaurus GUI, applets, etc.
Quite the undertaking!
- Interesting Mac OS X Version
- Charles Jolley is putting together an interesting MacOS X project
called OkitoThesaurus, based
on Aiksaurus. He is planning on turning this into a "system service"
that any service aware Mac OS X application can use. He's also talking
about improving the datafiles. Neat stuff, and I'm glad to see it
happening. :)
- Win32 Port in the Works
- Mike Pritchett is working on a Win32 version of the thesaurus, to be
included as an AbiWord plugin among other things. A standalone version
is available for download. Note
that this is a preliminary version! As part of this work, he's made
the necessary changes to port the core library over, which should among
other things allow the PHP version to run on Windows machines as well.
- Aiksaurus 0.15 Released
- This version implements a new datafile architecture, which reduces
disk space usage on the words.dat file from about 670 kb to 380 kb. There
are also a few small bug fixes. Its interface is entirely compatible with
Aiksaurus 0.12-0.14, so clients should not have to change their code.
- Paper: A Better Mouse Trap
- I've released a paper on developing Aiksaurus 0.12. Might be an
interesting read if you're into math and graph theory and so forth.
- MacOS X Port
- Francis James Franklin has ported Aiksaurus 0.11 to MacOS X.
You can download it from his site.

- QT Version Teaser
- The new QT version is progressing nicely. It's still not ready for
public consumption -- random segfault is following me around, and it needs
some cleanup work and error handling ability. But, I've put up a teaser
screenshot. Looks a lot like the GTK version. Thanks a lot to gallium for
helping me with some obscure KDE stuff.
