Having examined this image it appears it's the first image of the Tor debris that has been rotated and had a filtered applied to it. So that's two images only so far of the Tor debris, both of which are unverified.

Is it likely that this would have penetrated the body of the plane and travelled with it as the plane came down? Is that even an option?

No, it doesn't hit the aircraft directly, the warhead explodes nearby creating a cloud of shrapnel the aircraft passes through.
