    The American Scimitar-tooth cat, Homotherium serum, was another of the animals I reconstructed for the BBC's series "Wild New World". It always amazes me how different Homotherium was, in overall build and in many anatomical details, from the hyper-robust sabertooth Smilodon.

    It's absolutely unacceptable that the US, Russia, France, UK and Germany get to speak at the Auschwitz event in Israel but Poland does not. Polish citizens (mainly Jews but also many non-Jews) were primary victims of the camp, which was located in occupied Poland and the site...

    The fact that DreamWorks was able to make an animated action scene involving dumplings awesome is one of the things that makes Kung Fu Panda amazing. This really is one of the best-animated action films of all time and it still excites me to this day.

    One German and three Poles made a successful escape from in 1942. It was possible thanks to Otto Küsel, who was responsible for horse cart transports from the camp. They left unnoticed because one of the Poles, dressed as an officer, had a forged pass.

    Recluses and black widows honestly are way over-exaggerated as far as their danger goes, they’re definitely medically significant but they’re not going to chase after you and kill you. You’re ~5x more likely to die from a dog attack than either of these guys.

    Ice age reindeer on the move... These reindeer from the walls of Lascaux were painted in the Magdalenian about 17,000 years ago. This was one of the first colour photographs of Lascaux captured in 1947 by LIFE magazine photographer Ralph Morse.
