Until the location of this debris is confirmed, which is next to impossible with this image, I would treat it with caution. There's other examples of this type of debris documented in other conflicts, so there's no way to know this is in Iran

Oh good catch, that fits as well. I'll look more in old Luhansk/Donetsk photo dumps especially.

(Personally: I am leaning towards this being a recycled photo, taken from Telegram or Whatsapp and previous taken in a different incident/country. The source is not at all trustworthy)

Until we hear more from on where he got the photo from, best chance to verify the photo is through the concrete irrigation barriers, and (outside chance) this piece of trash. I guess a plastic food container? Can probably figure out the brand from the design.

Just to illustrate the dangers of over-interpreting early imagery: in the later (and better) images of the wreck, we can see that many of the specks that look like holes in the left image are actually rocks etc. Only the point marked with number 2 seems to be a puncture.

yeah if it's real, he really needs to share more info about it, because this is about the only hard evidence out so far of a missile shootdown.

In particular, gathered a ton of photos/videos back in 2015 of used Tor-M missiles in eastern Ukraine, without any matches to this one (though they obviously look very similar)

For what it's worth, I've tried a ton of ways to reverse search images to find this same photo but no luck so far. It could be geolocated (theoretically) from the details in the photo, or seen in other imagery / videos (e.g. drone footage of the crash site?)

Not sure where Ashkan got the photo from, but this is the patient zero for the Twitter shares. An old tweet from (found by ) shows a similar fragment from a missile used in 2015 in Donetsk. Again, no clue where orig pic came from.

  13. Next we'll take a look at the last known location of the aircraft and it's range from Iranian military bases, and see if the Tor system would have been in range to verify the Tor missile scenario is viable. This is independent of verifying if the image is genuine.

This is the original source of the photo being passed around, it was allegedly found near the PS752 flight. Speculation that it's a Tor-M (Russian air defense system used by Iran )

  15. Worth stressing this image is as yet unverified, and is going to be a tricky one to geolocate.

Satellite photos taken Wednesday show that Iranian missile strikes caused significant damage to some parts of al-Asad air base, which houses Iraqi and U.S.-led coalition troops.

  20. Jeez, was it? I wouldn't know anything about that!

US President : We are constructing many hypersonic missiles. The fact that we have this great military and equipment, however, does not mean we have to use it. We do not want to use it. As long as I am President, Iran will never be allowed to have nuclear weapon.

  28. If you're digging through images of the PS752 crash then the most important objects to look for at the moment would be engine debris, seeing a catastrophic engine failure appears to be the presumed scenario.

Someone appears to be mounting a hacking campaign to exaggerate the impact of the Iran strikes. Kuwaiti newswire was hacked earlier to say US was pulling out and now a prominent Israeli journalist was hacked to say wounded US troops are being flown to Israel from Iraq.

Hey all, be careful about analysis of holes in various parts of the plane. For example: these images show the same piece, where at least some of the "holes" actually appear to be small rocks or other debris in higher resolution images.

  39. We're reviewing images of the PS752 at , nothing yet indicate it was anything but an accident, and we've noted multiple individuals claiming images contain shrapnel damage when in fact it's debris and mud. Be careful about what you share and the claims you make.
