Johnny Otis was a titan of American R&B who has never received his due recognition and respect. Thanks for posting this!
Here's the best version of HARLEM NOCTURNE in my book, featuring the Johnny Otis band with the underrated Rene Bloch on alto. The arrangement catches the real mood of Harlem. The City at night. Vibrant, dangerous, silky, breathing life.
Damn, makes me want to don a trench coat and tail somebody through the sin-stinkin streets.

If there is ever a music piece that screams 'Film Noir' it has to be 'A Harlem Nocturne'.
As far as I can tell, there wasn't anthing Jonny Otis did that wasn't good.....
The alto makes this song. It gives me chills it's so good.
I actually purchased this version once on Amazon downloads and it was labeled under Bill Doggett. This is my favorite version anyhow.
Yes, this is one real great version, perhaps the BEST! ...and I know J Otis didn't write it, but who cares. LOL

First time I listened to this song was in Mike Hammer TV's series some years ago but it also appeared in another TV series, Criminal Minds, episode 3x10 "True Night".
