讃美歌320番は、昨日の礼拝のテキスト（旧約聖書創世記28章11～12節）を基に作詞されたものです。


１）　主よ、みもとに　近づかん
　　　登る道は　十字架に
　　　ありとも など　悲しむべき
　　　主よ、みもとに　近づかん

２）　さすらう間に　日は暮れ
　　　石の上の　仮寝の
　　　夢にもなお　天(あめ)を望み
　　　主よ、みもとに　近づかん

３）　主の使いは　み空に
　　　通う梯(はし)の　上より
　　　招きぬれば　いざ登りて
　　　主よ、みもとに　近づかん

４）　目覚めて後(のち)　枕の
　　　石を立てて　恵みを
　　　いよよ切に　称えつつぞ
　　　主よ、みもとに　近づかん

５）　うつし世をば　離れて
　　　天駆(あまが)ける日　来たらば
　　　いよよ近く　みもとに行き
　　　主の御顔を　仰ぎ見ん


原曲は元々民謡として以前より存在していたとも言われているようです。
詩は19世紀に英国の サラ・アダムス　（Sarah Flower Adams）によって作詞されました。

現在知られている旋律は米国のローウェル・メイスン（Lowell Mason）によって書き起こされました。
豪華客船タイタニック号が沈没する際、沈みゆく船上で、同船のバンドメンバー（沈没で全員犠牲になる）が演奏したと言われています。
