I'm gonna let you in on a little secret... Little closer... liiiiittle closer... (whispers softly) the five megacorporations that own all the media, especially disney, reeeeeally don't care whether or not you question their products, as long as you still keep paying for them.

And there's the rub - if you wanna share an informed opinion on, say, a massive new blockbuster movie, chances are you're gonna have to pay to SEE it first.

And even if you don't pay to see it, honestly, just by TALKING about it you're giving them free advertising, which in their eyes is almost as good. You wanna know what would REALLY stick it to the product-makers? Ignoring them.

I'm serious. Ignore them entirely. Never talk publicly about Star Wars or Marvel or any other Disney products again. Stay out of discussions about it. Find something else to occupy your spare time, like sports or stamp collecting or some shit.

Naturally, this would mean you'd have to stop harassing people over media opinions you disagree with, and ironically, you could no longer use that meme. Whoopsee.

If you REALLY fancy yourself above-it-all, and view media consumption in and of itself as an opiate for the weak, then criticizing that media is NOT starving the beast. It's just feeding it something a little spicier.

And I'm not even saying it's WRONG to criticize media. I do it all the time myself. By all means, criticize away.

Just don't fucking pretend that aggressively hating popular products makes you the slightest bit less "brainwashed" (or however you want to frame it) than liking them. You're not being revolutionary, you're just playing the other side of the same fucking coin.
