    When I was a student 20 years ago, the forced depopulation of entire regions by airstrikes and artillery fire was considered an issue that was worthy of ferocious global debate. Now it's considered a matter of routine barely worthy of mention in media or public discussion

    Yesterday, an old woman in Maraat al-Nouman cried as she had to left her town with the only thing she could take with herself: a cat.

    Turkey has the power to stop this. America has the power to stop this. Where are all the western journalists who screamed about NE Syria? The only reason 10,000 more Syrians are facing death, imprisonment & displacement is because their lives are viewed as less worthy.

    Locals in Maarat al-Numan are begging for a ceasefire to allow about 10,000 civilians still stuck in the city to escape and avoid falling in the regime's hands. The regime repeatedly targets the roads heading north, making escape incredibly dangerous.

    The collapse of the rebels in the face of the regime+Russian offensive is prompting locals in Idlib to accuse the opposition (esp Hayat Tahrir al-Sham) of handing over areas to the regime, but the flat topography of the areas being lost makes defending them costly & pointless

    S. : all four 4th Division soldiers killed early today were ex-Rebels (1-3). Another soldier from 52nd Brigade was shot dead (4) in Busra Harir (2 more wounded). Biggest losses in a single day for Assad's forces in CS since summer 2018 (6 KIA & 3 WIA).

    The post at Surman has been effectively surrounded as the roads to it are cut. This is the 2nd observation post to be enveloped in this way. The observation posts - greeted with such optimism by many Idlibis - have turned out to be redundant in the face of Russian intransigence
