My favorite is still "unpresidented" because this fool doesn't even know that the word unprecedented comes from the word precede, having come before. Hopefully we can "unpresident" him soon...
We sometimes say "Hold their feet to the fire". No one takes that literally. They know what you meant. Keep fighting.
Which makes me wonder where that phrase even comes from and also who was out there thinking of multiple ways to skin cats?
The English phrase "back them up against the wall" means pretty well the same thing. Pressing them until they have no where else to go. Anybody misunderstanding is likely doing so intentionally. Your apology is unnecessary because their outrage is disingenuous.
