At some point, an amazingly quick translator suddenly appeared on TLWiki, translating the entire game Moon. in only 30 days. This translator, Ixrec, then asked people what they wanted to see translated next. A poll was held on his forums allowing visitors to pick between the most popular suggested titles, and Cross Channel won the poll. Ixrec then formed a group, Amaterasu Translations, to translate Cross Channel.
After Cross Channel, he held another poll to determine what game he should translate next. Having translated Cross Channel, Ixrec had made a name for himself and there was so much interest in the poll that there had to be two rounds; one to filter out the least popular titles, and one to determine the actual winner. Eventually, Sekien no Inganock won the poll, to the delight of some and to the vexation of others. This got Amaterasu the nickname of 'furry devs', and this poll caused the 'disney' versus 'real deal' trolling (Sekien no Inganock was supposedly 'Disney', and you should instead vote for 'real deal' titles such as Baldr Sky and Muv-Luv Alternative).
And when Inganock was translated...the long-awaited third poll, once again in two rounds (although I might be remembering wrong and there could've been three). There were fierce debates during the filtering poll, where everybody had three votes that could be used to upvote or downvote three different titles. Then...came the final round of the third poll. It was madness. People got others from all around the internet to vote for their favorites, sites like TLWiki were modified to include big 'VOTE FOR MUV-LUV ALTERNATIVE' links and similar things, TokyoTosho was spammed with 'vote for Ruitomo on the Amaterasu poll' comments, somebody even raffled a brand new console among voters of a certain game...and eventually, during the release day of multiple shows, major fansub group gg blocked their entire site off, leaving only a page telling people to vote for Ruitomo on the Amaterasu poll for visitors trying to get their weekly anime subs. On the night the poll finished, #Ammy reached a record amount of people in the channel, easily being more than triple the usual amount of visitors. The channel was set +m to silence the chaos for a bit, and after a long wait, Amaterasu finally announced that things got out of hand and they would therefore not use the results of the poll. Shortly after, they announced they would translate Muv-Luv Alternative rather than Ruitomo, the poll winner.
I wonder what the fourth poll would've been like had Amaterasu accepted the third poll's result and kept its poll system. |
