In a better, alternative universe, the Obama administration stood up for human decency and prosecuted Bush administration officials who approved torture, so that today's US officials would understand that they can't get away with such appalling crimes.

  5. the error here is to suppose that it's the identity of organisations that's at stake, rather than the loyalties of the rank-&-file, which is to fight Assad/SDF rather than serve Turkey. These guys seek support the only place they can get it. 0 evidence they're robotic servants.

If it calls itself the FSA that points to its motivation to be the FSA. points out many of his contacts in the FSA have fought against Assad. I think in previous interviews, Liz Tsurkov said SNA contacts insistent they were fighting for principle not just wages.

  7. Cute how this suggests no civilians among those targeted. B/c US Intel is so great, I guess.

  8. it's so much worse than this. Assad's doctors & thugs have been torturing/brutalizing wounded civilians in their hospital beds since 2011.

  9. we hear so much about Trump's incompetence. allowing this chat to get on video is also incompetence.

  10. remarkable here that Gigeras doesn't address, much less contest, a single one of Erickson's specific factual assertions.

  11. replies show there are a lot of jerks out there who accept the dim-witted terrorist label and just go to town with it. here's the record of HTS. They kill fewer civilians than any other party to the conflict. Talk about ugly Americans.

The US military said that no civilians were killed in the operation to assassinate ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. This important NPR investigation suggests that's not the case: by .

  15. for every ethnicity etc. etc. that's supposed to have a 'community', there are plenty of 'ethnics' who don't belong and don't want to. woke stereotyping.

  16. there's a Turkish 'puppet state' in Cyprus because a vicious Greek military junta engineered a coup vs Makarios. That gave Turkey an impeccable right to intervene under the 1960 Treaty of Guarantee. but sure, that's worth a sneer.

  17. HTS has killed fewer civilians than any other party in the conflict. But sure, be a dunce who smears the group that does most to keep Assad aways from Idlib's refugees.

  18. no sanctions on Russia or China will achieve any strategic goals.

  19. not clear how Trump's political interests are "personal political interests ". he cd argue that he's doing this in the interests of the nation, & doesn't need the inquiry to beat Biden.

No, the one you mean is the group Sarāyā al-Mujāhidīn fī al-ʿIrāq (2005). But that's exactly what I mean. It's about the type of flag/design, which existed before ISI and which is a product of the Iraqi revolution. ISI just took existing elements and appropriated the design.

For example here is a fighter with Jaish al-Izza or an allied group wearing it as a headband. Jaish al-Azaa's leadership said before they want Syria where all groups including Alawites can leave in peace, and that they want to protect all groups.

No they weren't the only ones, it's been used by many people before ISIS was a large group. They didn't invent the seal of Mohammad because well... it's considered to be an actual seal that the prophet used.

But calling them isis is proxies is stupid too. IS not the only group who uses that symbol.

  29. I get it. US presidents can influence internal affairs with pronouncements, cash, sanctions, embargos, but if Trump says something about a candidate, that's a scandal.

  30. what a silly issue. it's not about who hates whom. it's about whether their policies operate on hate, a very different matter. you may hate someone - that says nothing about what you will or won't do to that person.

  31. . & invariably, when ppl celebrate the 'diversity' of Jewish views, they neglect to note how supine, feckless most of the 1930s-1950s Jewish non-zionists were when it came to serious opposition to Ben Gurion's hardline agenda.
