Syrian rebel metaphysics aren't always easy to follow, but here's how it works: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_of_Theseus#There_is_no_ship ….https://twitter.com/aronlund/status/1202294504260325381…

(I’ll ignore the sarcasm & treat this as an adult) - They didn’t disappear in Oct 2019, they were defeated much earlier (1) in Aleppo, (2) by “de-escalation” or (3) by Nusra/JFS/HTS or (4) they gave up the fight altogether as the cause was strangled by outsiders or extremists.

This whole conversation is particularly funny given how much of the pro-opp analysis of these groups rarely went beyond collecting their logos and checking to see how much green was included

I'm imagining some kind of checklist. Free Syria Flag? 5 freedom points. Shahada? Plus 3 on the Islamism-scale, seal of Muhammad nets you plus 5. Sword? Islamism +1. For a Ak47 in your logo you get 2 secularism points, for an M16 you get even 3. I'll hand in the paper tomorrow.

@EnginYukse solved this particular#SNA /#FSA mystery sometime ago ;-) See the miracle chart below#Syria@Charles_Lister@Elizrael Or: https://bit.ly/2LoqQ3s pic.twitter.com/YKJGY2gF9z

I find the motivations behind arguing whether they are/are not FSA as interesting as the arguments themselves

Who has said they "suddenly disappeared" in Oct 2019? The ones I have interviewed had become disillusioned and given up the fight by then, whereas, as far as I know, many of the men, who joined the Turkish backed group had spent the previous years in Turkey
