Truly one of the great mysteries of the Syrian war how all the FSA rebels suddenly disappeared in October 2019 and were replaced by Turkey-backed militants who coincidentally sit in their bases, obey their commanders, and use their names, flags, and tanks.https://twitter.com/Charles_Lister/status/1202258883705802752…

The #SNA identifies as the "#FSA," but at its core, it is a wholesale proxy of #Turkey. The #SNA is not a 30,000-man force of fighters trained in earlier years…

Syrian rebel metaphysics aren't always easy to follow, but here's how it works: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_of_Theseus#There_is_no_ship ….https://twitter.com/aronlund/status/1202294504260325381…

This whole conversation is particularly funny given how much of the pro-opp analysis of these groups rarely went beyond collecting their logos and checking to see how much green was included

I find the motivations behind arguing whether they are/are not FSA as interesting as the arguments themselves

Convenient. FSA freedom fighters who were battling Assad on the one side, warcrime commiting proxies for Turkey on the other, no shades, everyone was right. But this can't and shouldn't legitimize Assad's atrocities and many young SNA fighters are indeed "products" of this war.

They didn't disappear, they have joined up with the massive moderate rebel army from 2013-2015 that Obama refused to support, to wait for the next President.
