    No, the one you mean is the group Sarāyā al-Mujāhidīn fī al-ʿIrāq (2005). But that's exactly what I mean. It's about the type of flag/design, which existed before ISI and which is a product of the Iraqi revolution. ISI just took existing elements and appropriated the design.

    No they weren't the only ones, it's been used by many people before ISIS was a large group. They didn't invent the seal of Mohammad because well... it's considered to be an actual seal that the prophet used.

    the tough talk was always just talk. no one including the US was ever about to go to war with Iran - not crippled enough like, say Iraq 2004, & a lot bigger in most every way.

    The proximate cause here is Trump, but some of this is secular rather than cyclical. Hard to imagine any future American president convincing the Gulf states that "the magical US security umbrella" is back. (That's not a bad thing.)

    +1000. many who waste time on marginal Assadists have proven they're taking time/energy from much more valuable work.

    Your time, energy, and attention are valuable and finite. Do not waste them on those who do not deserve them. I know this is easier said than done, but on the other side of it is a feeling of immense liberation, and a much clearer, calmer, more purposeful mind.
