"Udon to Sake Awase Menjiro" is a Sanuki udon specialty shop that is known to those in the know. It was featured on the popular TV program "Imachan-no 'Jitsu-wa…'" and became a hot topic!
In this article, we will introduce the charm of this shop!
Founded in Showa 58th! A Sanuki Udon specialty shop hideout
"Udon to Sake Awase Menjiro" introduced in a popular TV show, "Imachan-no 'Jitsu-wa (Actually) …'" is founded in 1983 (Showa 58th). It has been managed for two generations.
It first opened in the 1st basement floor of Osaka Ekimae Dai-Yon Building and has operated there for 34 years. They then relocated to the 1st basement floor of Osaka Ekimae Dai-San Building in April 2018.
Many regular customers are saying, "the Udon here is the best!" and this Sanuki udon specialty shop is known only to those in the know.
It has excellent access from Umeda Station of all lines! There is "Maruriki," which is a Kishi-Katsu Izakaya (Japanese pub) on the right side, and the lottery counter on the left side.
The shop only has counter seats inside, which are almost full during lunchtime, but the turnover is quick. There are a lot of solo lunch eaters like business persons and female office workers, and it is easy to enter for a woman visiting alone.
Their a la carte "Kake Udon" is reasonable starting from 400 yen, and add-ons are available from 40 yen. A wide variety of Don-mono (Bowls) is one of the most popular dishes.
Teishoku (Set meals) starts from 600 yen, and there are great value dishes with the set consisting of mini Udon and mini Don.
Draft beer and Highball (Whiskey and soda) cost only 290 yen, and it's reasonable.
There are 2 types of one-coin beer set (500 yen), these are the "A Set": Kushikatsu (Deep-fried skewers)+Potato salad+Draft Beer or Highball, and the "B Set": Hiyayakko (Chilled tofu)+Edamame+French fries+Draft Beer or Highball. It's suitable for any one-coin occasion such as a quick drink, Hashigo-sake (Bar-hopping), or severe drinking.
Freshly made and boiled Udon with the aroma of Kansai Dashi
The dish introduced in "Imachan-no 'Jitsu-wa …'" is "Tori Namba Udon" (620 yen) and "Korokke (Japanese style croquette)" (150 yen).
The Dashi (Broth) is made by carefully selected ingredients, such as Kezuribushi (Dried bonito shavings), Dashi kelp, and dried sardine. It is a specialty Dashi that has been improved for 36 years and can only be tasted here.
They use domestic chicken. The soft and elastic chicken is placed in the broth.
The original handmade noodles are not too soft nor too hard and chewy, and you will feel the texture when you eat it. The flavor of the wheat is also rich. The Udon with a smooth texture and chewy noodles will become addictive once you try it.
By the way, the noodles weigh 200g before it's boiled, and that is a considerable amount for women. But it's delicious so that you could finish it.
The freshly fried Korokke are also excellent!
This is also the ultimate handmade Korokke that has been improved over and over again. The inside is slightly sweet and delicious! It is best to soak it in the Udon or eat it as it is.
Reasonable combination with add-on set
This is a combination of "Tori Namba Udon" (620 yen) with "Tamago-Yaki Ten (Japanese rolled omelet Tempura)" (40 yen) and "Satsumaimoten (Yam Tempura)" (80 yen). The add-on item is served on a separate plate.
After ordering, the "Tamago-Yaki Ten" that is handmade from Tamago-Yaki has delightfully crispy coating! The Tamago-Yaki broiled using the Dashi goes well with Udon.
Bill payment is made by self-checkout with a meal ticket system. But since there are cases where there are additional orders and the total amount was unknown, the writer of this article settled the payment after checking the amount after all meals are done.
The current shop owner is Kenji Maenami, the second generation. The business is managed well by the parents and children.
