    Reconstruction of the destroyed temple of Baalshamin in Palmyra is expected to begin this month, in a joint effort by Syrian authorities and UNESCO. This was revealed in August by the director of antiquities in Homs, Hussam Hamish.

  3. It was designed by Danish architect Henning Larsen. The design idea is based on the Damascus rose, one of the many symbols of Damascus. Massar in Arabic means path, or destiny.

  4. Prior to the war, First Lady Asma Al-Assad created several Massar Centers - places that functioned as community centers for children to learn active citizenship in. Children’s Discovery Centre, also known as Massar Rose, is one such project in Damascus, halted in mid-late 2014.

  6. A Syrian-Iranian Joint Committee for Public Works and Housing has just begun its meetings in Tehran. The meetings were presided by the Syrian Minister of Public Works and Housing Suhail Abdul Latif and Iranian Minister of Public Roads and Urban Development Mohammed Islami.

  7. The new Syrian airline, Levant Airways, will launch its operations during this upcoming summer.

  8. The Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection revealed that 607 supply violations were detected and 159 shops have been closed in just two days, mostly due to overcharging, non-advertising of prices, possession of irregular bills and making unknown bills or materials.

  10. The Cabinet’s Presidency is currently studying a bill to grant the General Organization of Public Housing a free loan of 5 billion SYP per year for the implementation of the state’s plans to launch housing projects in the country’s provinces.

  11. And even more recently, two levels of caravans were installed three weeks ago at the construction site, presumably to finish off some buildings under construction.

  13. Another company with its headquarters in Eighth Gate is Al-Badia Cement Company. The company was founded in 2006, and is one of the foremost private sector cement companies in Syria. The company recently received final approval to be listed on the Damascus Securities Exchange.

  14. Levant Airways is a Syrian company launched this year and is planning to connect more than 3 destinations on the map every day, with a total of 28 regional destinations. While it has its headquarters in Eighth Gate, it will operate from Damascus International Airport.

  15. Other signs pointing to that the construction will soon be in full swing are that advertisements were recently put up on billboards in Damascus, as well as recent new marketing by IGO. Levant Airways, a new company located in Eighth Gate, recently said it will soon be operating.

  16. I have spoken with sources and had it confirmed that construction of the project is still ongoing, albeit at a relatively slow rate. Many buildings were already finished before the war. Rumours in the sector say that the project will soon be back in full swing.

  19. Eighth Gate Project. A mixed-use project by Emirati Emaar Properties and Invest Group Overseas (IGO) in 2008, but was halted after the war. With the reopening of the Emirati embassy last year, the project was given new attention and has recommenced. Parts of it already finished.

  23. Last month, a similar intiative was launced in Jaramana, a suburb pf Damascus, by the city council of Jaramana where they put a refrigerator that now is frequently filled with food and cans that are simply up for grabs, so that the poor can benefit from it.

  32. An entire new town is currently being built and will be known as Dahiyet Fayhaa, located in Rif Dimashq next to Dahiyet Qudsayya. A major project made by both the public and private sector which will offer 11 000 new residential plots, 1100 of which will be residential reserves.

  37. The new area will be 217 hectares and includes 465 residential plots in addition to other functions. The master plan was already approved in 2015 based on decree No. 5/1982 and its amendments, though now it has been duly certified by the Ministry of Public Works and Housing.
