This morning I noticed that the snopyta instance (as well as all the other alternative instances)of invidious were down.
Invidio.us still loads, but crashes a lot. Is it going do be blocked shortly as well?
Which are the alternatives to still view yt content? Proxies?
Fucking Google is IP banning - https://github.com/omarroth/invidious/issues/811
I use youtube-dl with mpv or VLC to watch my YouTube content.
There is a script that can handle subscriptions.
I can say yes, but that is a different problem for YT. Invidious is run on a server as a proxy, they can IP block that, but they can't IP block a client application without blocking the user from using YT.
The only instance working atm for me is invidious.sh which doesn’t appear to proxy videos
I would just self host it. Download the source code, load it up on local host and enjoy
I tried it after seeing this and it is working fine for me right now
It worked for me last night. Check again, or with other instanses. The list of instanses is at their github page.
It's been working fine for me, I keep seeing these posts though.
I wish I could try self hosting but there's no simple way to install Crystal on ARM devices. Maybe one day I'll try cross compiling. I'm on a dynamic IP too so IP banning wouldn't last TOO long I guess..
I don't think I experienced any issues yesterday or even an hour ago, but as of right now it seems that no Invidious instances work to play videos anymore, proxied or not: "video unavailable" is shown. Some instances still show video lists and some don't. It looks like Google has made their automatic rate-limiting/banning more strict*.
Has Google finally decided to stop Invidious and defeated it in one swoop? This is very unfortunate. There was just recently a relatively big upgrade to the Invidition extension, too.
*EDIT: Or it is also technically a possibility that they have went ahead and specifically banned Invidious, since all the public instances are well... publicly shown on lists on github and invidio.us. I don't know how the onion instances work (how they access Google's servers) - can any Tor users confirm if any of those still work or are affected in the same way?
Concerning public instances, I think to remember I've read people complaining about a ban on their local instances too.
So it's probably not bound to instances being listed somewhere.
Older news, but good to review and keep in mind.
A recent study by DuckDuckGo — a browser and search engine that claims to respect your privacy — has found out that Google personalises search results even if the users aren’t logged into the browser or are using the private browsing option — ‘incognito mode’.
Personalised results are shown by Google depending on the information that they’ve collected about you from using other Google products as well as your search history — tailored to your interests. https://candid.technology/google-personalises-search-results-in-incognito-mode/

I already posted this in r/privacy but I thought it may belong on here too.
I have an older Android phone that I haven't signed in with my Google account. I've disabled all the Google apps that I couldn't uninstall. I've installed F-Droid and installed some apps from there, but their selection is very limited. To avoid downloading any apps from the Google Play Store I've downloaded APK files directly from the developers website. Is downloading APK files to install apps a viable way to avoid the Google Play Store, or does Google somehow still gather data about apps I've installed that way? If this is a viable way then why doesn't it seem to be talked about?
I started to use iCloud as my primary email address; after that, I stop using chrome. I figured out firefox offers some useful privacy measures, So I used firefox using containers and with strict privacy settings. I tried to use dock dock go instead of google. Since I am web developer and search about my issues, dock dock go was nothing in compare to Google. So I had to come back to google. But I created a new Gmail account and by using container, Google do not have access to my browsing data. Therefore I do not receive any targeted advertising.
I never used Microsoft for storage and office. I use pages, numbers, and keynote applications. And for storage, I subscribe to the 2TB plan with iCloud instead of paying something to Google.
Hi everyone!
First of all, thank you for this community. Finding people with the same passion that you have its always cool :)
I created a blogseries called "De-Google my life". In it, I describe how I'm trying to ditch Google once and for all.
I first started looking for help to selfhost my email, but then I fell down a rabbit hole (a very entertaining one I might add) and now I'm even selfhosting things I never thought I would find (like Matomo)!
Things I have replaced:
Google Drive
GMail
Google Keep
Google Docs
Google Analytics
Blogger
Google Contacts
Google Calendar
Google Photos
Google Location History
Google Tasks
And a few extras that Google doesn't provide :)
You can check the progress here:

I was digging through "My Activity" in my Google Account and was surprised to see that everytime I opened an app, it was logged. I started deleting all of my activity, then I (and a couple friends) received emails that money they had sent me via Google Pay had been refunded back to them. Really odd, but I haven't seen anything in my Google Pay account or my bank account.
Anyways, with these issues, I'm strongly considering deleting my Google Account entirely. I'm just curious if anyone here has already done so and if so, how's your digital life been as a result?
Chromecast is one of the last few things keeping me locked in the ecosystem.
I would have gone LineageOS, but cast with MicroG doesn't seem to work. People have recommended Kodi, but getting fundamental things like Netflix to run seems pretty painful. What are you guys using?
YouTube tracks all that it can about you even if you use private browsing/Firefox/DDG and use it signed out. Are there any alternatives out there?
Looking for tips on how to use an alternative to Google Voice. I have my old POTS home number and an old home office line that I want to keep.
I should be degoogled before Christmas thanks to this group!
I am looking for a free alternative to Gmail. I am using Firefox and DuckDuckGo, but I am now looking for an alternative to Gmail to use. I have considered Yahoo, but I am open to hearing other options.
Hey,
On the topic of DeGoogling, I sort of want to move away from Google apps. However, one of my most used apps currently is the Google News app. Is there any app that functions similar to this app? An added bonus, though pretty much impossible, would having it be skeuomorphic. Thank you in advance.
Hey deGoogle!
As we are building an alternative to this monster, I wanna talk about what do people seek for in an alternative when they think about a search engine?
It might sound like a very silly question. But the fact of the story is is that a searching mechanism is pretty much like praying to god. Google has become the largest religion in the world. Sucking in all the data from all around us. With that, the idea behind Google was magnificent - employ people (for free) to build up a world semantic knowledge base.
I don't know if anyone here has watched La Machina (I think I got that right). If you have, you will remember that it was a search engine, that the AI software was based upon.
Semantics and search are today, yesterdays and tomorrows communication. I would like to bring up some value, and hence we believe that there must not just be just centralised alternatives to Google, but also decentralized solutions. A solution that is not controlled by any force, boundaries, etc. Solutions belonging to any kind of species.
With that said, back to my main questions. I will share a table of comparison between what we are doing and what we believe to be are the vertues of a custodial search service.
I don't think that I can post pictures due to restrictions. But this link has the table in question
