    とはいえ3年や5年の任期付きで優秀な人に来てもらうには、給料以外に様々な利点を用意して、その後のキャリアパスも示して、お互いに最適のタイミングになるように見計らわないといけない。そうでないと良い人が来なくて事故が起こるか、良い人でも腐ってしまって事故を起こす。

    「特任」だからこそ、これまで大学ではやってこなかった、ポストと予算がこれまでなかったが、現在や未来のニーズを予想できる分野の人を迎えて、新しい学問を作っていけるという面がある。また専任で終身雇用でも、変な人や業績が出ない人は一定数いるしそういう人は定年まで辞めてくれない。

    ただしこれ、大学の財政事情を考えると今後寄附講座的なものがますます増えていくであろうことを前提とするならば、いかなる企業によるいかなる寄付講座のいかなる教員の言動に対する寄付停止もありうるという前提で慎重に評価しなければならない事案であろう。

    寄付講座の企業が寄付を停止するのは当然、喜ばしい、なんて言っている人は、ちょっとお気楽にすぎる。特に、大学人や学術研究関係者でそういうことを平気でいえるのは、ちょっと神経を疑う。もちろん、企業としては今取れる最善の手段だし、人々の懲罰感情は満たせる。問題はそこじゃない。

    今回の件、雇用形態や契約は兎も角として、東京大学だからこそ落ち着いて状況観察できてきるのだと思う。あれが、普通の私立大学や地方国公立なら、もうてんやわんやの大騒ぎで、傷口塞ぐために、何はともあれ即粛正ということになるだろう。

    いま大学は、どこも守りの姿勢の危機管理に徹するしかない状況にある。その中で、論争的な発言、なかんずく特定の勢力の逆鱗に触れるような主張があった場合、本来は研究者を護るべきはずの大学が、恣意的な処分で組織を護る、なんてことの前例になる。だから、慎重に今回の事態を整理する必要がある。

    あの特任准教授の戯言連発で、私が一番危惧するのは、今回の処理の仕方によっては、今後、(常勤非常勤問わず)大学教員に対する恣意的な処分の前例が出来かねないという点。どういう規範や規則に抵触すればこういう処分、という明確なルールにしないと、非常に危ない。
