    This isn't the first time such attempts made to hold a grand Kurdish conference. For instance in 2013, the main Kurdish parties even agreed on a date but due to deep difference and regional pressure, it never happened. I wrote about it at the time:

    Representatives of 70 Kurdish parties including all major Kurdish movements across the Middle East to meet in Erbil to talk and (possibly) prepare for the long awaited grand national Kurdish conference in a bid to unify Kurdish position on the major developments in the region.

    A weak stance from HDP leadership over the mass arrest of their members and most of their leadership. It seems Turkish left wing within HDP (now dominant since most of the Kurdish leaders arrested) are taking HDP to a direction contrary to what HDP’s mostly Kurdish base wants.

    HDP, rather than withdraw its MPs from parliament -in the wake of 24 of its elected mayors being removed from office- has called for early elections.

    This article kinda summarises how many Kurds, including PKK & KRG feel: there is a conspiracy by Turkey-Iran-Iraq-Syria against Kurds across the region backed by US and Russia; and the only way for Kurds to survive is unity and manoeuvre among the players.

    This is an excellent speech by KRG‘s Masrour Barzani (at least in theory). Probably his best speech so far: He talks about key issues including KRG governance, refugees, Iraq, KRG foreign policy, Syria, Iran-US.

    KRG PM Masrour Barzani: “I believe around 60,000 Syrian refugees have crossed the border [to Iraqi Kurdistan] lately” [he refers to those who fled the recent Turkish invasion]. There were around 230,000 Syrian refugees in Kurdistan before the invasion, almost all Kurds.

    Some background: Huda-Par is the extension of the now-defunct Kurdish Hizbollah which was fighting PKK in the 90s. Some believe the party is backed by AKP. Huda-Par claims to be working for constitutional recognition of Kurds, Kurdish language and decentralisation of state power.

    Huda-Par leader also says Turkish-backed Syrian opposition is worse than YPG & things under their rule will get worse. He says many Kurds he met are happy to be "freed from PYD's injustice but not like Afrin, there is more injustice under Syrian opposition groups than under PYD".

    Zekerya Yapicioglu, the leader of Turkey's Islamist party Huda-Par for instance criticises YPG for abandoning the name Rojava or Syrian Kurdistan & instead calling the region North and East Syria & says YPG doesn't consider itself a Kurdish party anymore.

    Interesting interview with leader of Turkey's Kurdish Islamist Huda-Par. He criticises YPG for abandoning Kurdish cause & being authoritarian; he also criticises TR-backed Syrian opposition as anti-Kurdish & worse than YPG. He also calls for Kurdish unity.

    SDF commander Mazloum Abdi was in Erbil earlier last week. He has met with KDP and PUK leaders; he has also met with leaders of ENKS (main Kurdish rival of PYD in Syria), according to local sources. But, it is unclear if the meetings have led to any tangible results.
