  4. Today marks 6 yrs since the killing of rebel leader Abulkader Al Saleh. Syrian groups portray him as a hero and a voice of moderation. When the Syrian branch of Al Qaeda was designated as a terrorist organization in 2013, he spoke against it &said” Al Qaeda is our brothers”

  5. The people of the nation of Syria are diverse and beautiful. Together, we create the fabric of a wonderful tapestry. The groups who chant “Allah Wa Akbar” in front of Christian-majority villages are not helping to weave that tapestry. They are ripping it apart.

  6. They only appeal to the ultra-conservative, Sunni minority in Syria. Most of my Sunni friends in Damascus and Aleppo share my concerns. These rebel groups make it difficult for moderate Muslims and Christians to continue believing in the aspirations of the early revolution.

  7. What began as a multi-ethnic, multi-sectarian movement has morphed into an insurgency that reflects the worst fears of those who oppose Islamic extremism. As a staunch opponent of the Assad regime from a Christian family, I always felt estranged from most Syrian rebel groups.

  12. I am a Syrian who joined the Syrian revolutionary movement before 2011. We can quibble about whether the Takbir chant heard in this video is jihadist, but as a native Arabic speaker, I can assure you that these men are militant Islamists.

1/Lot of controversy over use of the term "jihadists" to describe backed rebels invading N/E . I think at a minimum, we can all agree that these invaders are acting in a militant Islamist (yes, Sunni) manner that makes it easy to confuse them with jihadists.
