Whenever I go to any video game store, or any comic convention, one thing I always know I'm going to see are the endless walls of Funko Pops. What do people find so appealing about them? Not only have they reused the same basic design literally over 100,000 times, they're all universally hideous. Big black dots for eyes (even when it doesn't make sense on the character), rectangular head, rounded features, little facial detail, not to mention the huge heads that use more material than their entire bodies. One that sticks out in my mind is the SpongeBob Funko Pop, which I'm pretty sure is the ugliest licensed figure I've ever seen in my life.
I've been to peoples' houses and seen shelves covered in Funko Pops, rarely ever taken out of the box. All I can think is, "why"? Why do people spend all this money on this stuff just to stick it on a shelf and never open it? Is it for the investment, like Beanie Babies were? If so, I can't wait for the bubble to burst so they can all go to the clearance bins and stop wasting so much floor space. They're a perfect example of how you can get people to give you boatloads of cash for worthless crap if you market that worthless crap hard enough.
I have a feeling this is going to be an unpopular post, because regarding the recent news about Taylor's record label dispute, reddit has been overwhelmingly in support of her.
Taylor Swift is always playing the victim. Almost all of her songs are about how some boy came along and broke her heart, and how tragic that is because she was a perfect angel girlfriend and he was the absolute devil.
Example. She put Joe Jonas on blast over their breakup. Told everyone on Ellen that he broke up with her in a 20 second phone call. But Joe Jonas came out and said that the only reason the phone call was so short was because she hung up on him.
Ok, but she was only 19 with this happened. Surely she's grown and changed as a person since then?
Nope. I'm not gonna link sources because you can find them easily on google, but she continues to have relationships like this. They end bitterly and she writes a song or makes a snarky public comment about how awful her ex is. Examples: John Mayer, Calvin Harris, Harry Styles, Jake Gyllenhaal.
Look at her feuds with other celebrities. Kanye and Katy Perry are kind of insane, but she's fought with many others: Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, the list goes on.
Look at how she defends herself in all of these situations. She has literally told lies (ex: the kanye west debate and the joe jonas thing) to paint a better portrait of her as the victim.
And didn't she lie about her masters situation when the news first broke, too? Didn't it come out that Taylor did know about the deal and did have the opportunity to buy her masters, but she passed it up?? It seems she had the power to stop this from ever happening in the first place.
Now she's posting some pretty big accusations of him publicly, but she has nothing to back up her claims. She is literally asking her fans to brigade someone and have blind faith that what she's saying about him is completely true.
It definitely could be true. And I do feel bad for her if that's the case.
With the 24 hour system, time is much simpiler to understand. There is no need for specifying am or pm because it is based on how many hours have passed, for example, instead of "the party is at 9:00" you can say "the party is at 21:00." By saying it this way, you never have to specify in the morning or evening. Furthermore, many countries and workplaces use the 24 hour clock, which is convient because you don't have to swap between formats when dealing with time.
(To clarify I live in the USA.) I think it’s ridiculous that people are afraid of nuclear energy, the only (major) disasters in nuclear plants where Fukushima, caused by a natural disaster, and Chernobyl, caused by gross neglect on the soviet unions part. Modern reactor designs (the thorium reactors specifically) are incredibly safe, produce little to no waste, and generate a ton of energy.
Edit: said thallium when I meant thorium
I’m fairly religious. I know religious people, and non religious people. We live in harmony. After all, it’s not harming anyone. So people who go through the trouble of making people feel terrible about their religion and their choices are dickheads. Most people use religion to cope, so people who go around forcing their ideals onto religious people is like telling a 2 year old they’re going to die at 15. It’s may be true, but why would you say that? Im not excluding the reverse, where people tell non religious people that they’ll go to hell. That’s really fucked up, and they deserve whatever insults you have.
A lot of women, especially the crowd over at r/femaledatingstrategy are very bitter over men who'll dayte girls significantly younger than them, but also go on about how older men are the men they prefer to date.
That's a thing in life. I know you want to date older men. A lot of women do. So how is a 30 treat old supposed to get a girlfriend if 30 year old women want 36 year old men? That 30 year old man must dates a 22 year old.
When I was 24, I dated a 19 year old and I had to deal with accusations from family members that I was a pedophile that objectifies girls. Mind you, those accusations only came from female relatives, one who was dating a man several years older than her to the point of a 12 year age gap.
If a girl dates older men then she has no say in what an appropriate age gap is, and if she accuses an adult man of being a pedophile for dating an adult women, she should be sued for libel.
When you are in a committed relationship wherein certain actions and situations with other individuals would be considered cheating, why are you still viewing those potential situations as opportunities to cheat?
By saying that, you're basically asking for a pat on the back and a cookie for how good of a partner you must be for respecting the basic boundaries of your committed relationship.
It doesn't make you sound like a good partner, it really does the opposite. It shows that you continue to think of other people as being potential partners.
It's worth noting that this is not the same thing as fantasizing about other people. Fantasies are thoughts, but saying "I had the opportunity to cheat" shows that you considered turning the thought into an action and saw this as something you could and would do.
With that kind of mindset, every minute of every day in this world could be considered an opportunity to cheat. I think that a good partner who is fully committed does not view life's events as opportunities to cheat once they are in a committed relationship.
Now I‘m not saying that your grades have anything to do with your intelligence I’m just saying that often It’s just used by students who aren’t good in school to feel better about themselves. In the way of: I‘m not dumb or lazy it’s just the school system I‘m talented and actually smarter than the straight A student. Again I‘m not saying that this isn’t sometimes the case but if you only get Fs than that doesn’t necessarily mean you‘re talented or the school system is failing you it often just means that you either are actually a bit dumb or are just incredibly lazy. Don’t act like having bad grades is completely fine because it doesn’t reflect your intelligence
Giving people a special treatment or perceiving them as untouchable and helpless or as if they were butterfly children just because they belong inherently to a different race, belittles their essence as a person and makes you a hypocrite
Many people on this subreddit have said that downvoting an unpopular opinion is wrong, as this is what this subreddit is for. While I agree with this, I think it's completely fine to downvote an opinion in which the poster clearly didn't really think about what they were saying. Basically, it's fine to downvote a stupid opinion.
I keep seeing posts on FB of a baby that was born a year ago, and hasn't left the hospital since. He was born with numerous ailments, and is hooked up to almost every machine imaginable in the hospital. He's been there since last November, and people are calling him a "warrior and fighter". And that is all fine and dandy, he's definitely a fighter, but one post from the parents that stood out to me was "he has spent every moment of his life in unimaginable pain". And that got me thinking, is it fair to the baby to be forcefully kept alive through all these machines? Especially when the child does not have a voice of his own? I am not one to think of abortion as an "easy way out", but if I knew my own child would be still be in the hospital indefinitely after being born, spending every waking moment in unimaginable pain, I would not want to subject my child to that kind of life. It just seems a bit unfair to me. But I know this is unpopular, so do with this as you please.
I have a friend that is constantly retelling stories we’ve heard before with such enthusiasm, I’d hate to say, “Bro, you’ve said that before”. I just listen and laugh, cause it makes him feel good. More than likely, me stopping him is not going jog his memory. Why make him feel bad? I have time. We’re just chillin. If anything they’ll get the impression you just don’t care. This happens to me sometimes too, and I hate when ppl do it. If I told you before I’m sorry.
Every post I see on two x are girls complaining about guys and the posts always have a clickbait title like “to the guy who followed me home...” I know sometimes things can be true and the sub can sometimes offer good advice but 90% of the posts contain misandry views and everyone on there gather their pitchforks and shame guys. Sometimes you even encounter white knights who get praise in the comments. Overall that subreddit is a nightmare.
We too often treat older people as wise and all knowing. They've lived longer, experienced more and so their words carry more weight. This is how we're supposed to feel.
However in my experienced older generations and (I don't mean 65 plus, I actually mean 35 plus.) Often use their age to attack, bully and put down the younger generations for their lifestyle choices. They're jealous, their looks are fading, what they have too offer the world and their potential has become less and less over time and because of that they have to fall back on something to separate themselves and make themselves feel superior to the younger generation who they see as a threat.
They can be just as intelligent, if not more so. They're often better educated, more up to date with technology and the sciences. And some jealous people find this hard to deal with. And so use their age as a weapon against any potential arguments, conversations, threats to their character and self; and what they've achieved in their lifetime.
In short, be proud of who you are. Don't let the older generations tell you you cant, or you have to do things this way instead of that way, or that you have things too good. Or are even too sensitive. Because primarily the reason for this is simply jealousy.
Where can I get more of that chalky Tums©-like consistency? Honestly, what the hell is that stick flavored with?
Yes, the sugar is delicious. It evaporates on your mandibles leaving you wanting more as you scrape the bottom of that sweet sack of dextrose.
But
If anyone knows where to find a bigger stick, I'm taking 6 inches+. Let me know. Sometimes I throw away the sugar and just suck on that stick for a half hour. Goodness gracious.
Yes, I understand some cops are not great people. Yes some cops abuse their power. But that does not make every cop wrong. Nor does it make them the enemy of the non-police. Seeing posts where people are injecting themselves into police situations purposely to make the cop's lives more difficult instead of easier is infuriating to me. (Such as videos where a bystander is yelling at cops for their badge numbers or why the person is "being harassed" etc.)
He could have been just propped up in his chair and everything coming from his communication device was actually written by someone in the next room.Sometimes they had a few laughs by throwing in some alien shit.
God damn doesn’t it fee good to get people pissed off enough to vote downwards. 100 times plus comments?!
I made a sarcastic comment earlier today and it made the entire comment section riled up about police ethics and shit. They gave me so much attention it felt good lol. Yeah, being an asshole troll still feels good in 2019.
Dont get me wrong, LOVE babies, cant wait for my own. Some people's babies though.... Have you ever seen one that just wasnt that cute? Like you try to find something that makes them cute so you dont feel like a monster for feeling that way?
That episode of Seinfeld where they think their friend's baby is ugly is so relatable lol but not to that extreme where I think it's hideous.
Don't get me wrong. There are *many* valid criticisms of American education, but I've found anecdotally that many who claim they learned literally nothing in school usually were the same ones that skipped class or came to school high or just didn't even show up to the building. Many things they claim not to know, we did, in fact, learn.
I'm 28. I grew up watching episodes 4, 5, and 6 on VHS with my older brothers. I was fully primed for the prequels and thoroughly enjoyed all of them. I collected action figures and played Star Wars Obi-Wan (based on Episode 1) on my XBOX for basically an entire summer.
I feel like in the past however many years, Star Wars has just been dumped on - content from every angle, new stories, cartoons, comics, etc. By now, I feel like there's just too much Star Wars content. I haven't kept up, and I don't want to. It's getting watered down. Episodes I-VI were epic. By now it's just a lame money-grabbing franchise.
From a linguistic point of view, the word y'all presents a great opportunity to incorporate the second person plural into the English language. This would be similar to something like vous in French or vosotros/ustedes in Spanish. Basically it eliminates the confusion between addressing someone in particular and addressing a group. It can even be incorporated as a pronoun because it already has a widely recognised grammatical structure: I run, She runs, You run, Y'all run etc. I don't think it's "unseemly" to use it.
Not everything has to agree to one’s own opinion and if it offends you, you can still deal with it in a mature way. Not everything has to be a screaming match between overgrown toddlers.
Before sny claims of nazi are made, I'm native American, so if anything I'm pretty far from nazis. Moving on.
If you support black pride, that's all well and good, just like if you support gay pride. BUT, you cannot be against white pride/straight pride without being a hypocrite. If you support pride for something you cannot control for one thing, it must apply to all things. You cannot be selective in equality.
That is not to say neo nazis/black supremacists/et are ok, but if you have pride in being something you can't control, then others can as well.
I personally don't want to be writing research papers and essays every week, doing math stuff and studying for a math tests. I'm also going to have to do PE at some point, which isn't a problem but I'm paying for this stuff because it's required, but my goal is to get into animation. They force people into classes literally all for money, I'm going to encourage anyone who I talk about college with to not go to it. I'm finishing up my first semester on academic probation because I was told by my advisor to take the classes I least want first and get them out of the way, and that was a big mistake.
Off topic, why does it seem like everyone's financial aid office/student service centers suck ass at their jobs. They tell the wrong shit all the time and I've heard this from about 8 different people going to different colleges. None of the people in the offices are on the same page, its just a mess.
I'm voting for whoever wants to get rid of student loans because these colleges really be scamming people.
