Masterthread with links to some of my threads/articles about German Jihadis and ISIS in general in no particular order:

  2. 16. But those two also didn't make it to Germany: While Dominik W. was killed fighting in Syria, Mohammed A. was severely injured and captured by YPG.

  3. 15. TMC however continued his plot against Germany: The second hit team consisted of two recruits from his Katiba Furqan: Dominik W. from Hildesheim and Mohammed A. who had lived in Hamburg for some years. Unlike most German ISIS members both guys were tough fighters.

  4. 14. Ömer D. was killed with his brother Yusuf when a rocket hit their car near the Iraqi-Syrian border area at al-Qaim. I am rather convinced that in the end, Ömer D. wasn't involved in TMC's attack plot anymore but just wanted to leave ISIS and Syria.

  5. 13. Our chats came to an end in autumn that year. On 14/11/17, and announced that they had killed Ömer D., whom they described as a "senior ISIS leader and "external operations coordinator" which was likely a bit exaggerated.

  6. 12. He was quite friendly and told me I would be a good "amni", which was funny but a bit awkward considering that I knew he was working with Amniyat's ExOps. He switched messengers and accounts while fleeing advancing SDF and coalition from Raqqa to Deir ez Zor to MERV region.

  7. 11. It turned out that Ömer D. was still in Raqqa as he told me back then, authorities probably confused him with another man. I kept in contact with him for several months.

  8. 10. At some point surveillance was lost and he went missing. Authorities knew that there was an attack plan against Germany – and it was only days until carnival season, with big events in Cologne and elsewhere. Ömer D. was feared to act as the ringleader like Abaaoud in Paris.

  9. 9. In early 2017, German counter terrorism officials were alerted by reports that Ömer D. had secretly returned to Germany. He was put under surveillance, his case was extensively discussed in the Joint Counter-Terrorism Center GTAZ (kind of Germany's national fusion center).

  10. 8. Due to his veteran status, Ömer D. had some privilege within ISIS and worked in Idarat Mujahideen in Raqqa. He had extensive networks in Turkey, Lebanon and Germany, which made him interesting as a logistician for TMC and OSEO's plan to attack in Germany.

  11. 7. For his plan TMC called another German ISIS member: Ömer D., who was well-known to German authorities. His name came up in 2011 as he was in contact with Abdeladim el-K., head of the Düsseldorf cell, an AQ group that planned IED attacks in Germany, a plot foiled by the NSA.

  12. 6. Sutkovic and Seadini were instructed to change their appearance: They smuggled into Turkey and underwent a hair transplantation. Counterterrorism officials recognized them nonetheless and they were arrested in late 2016.

  13. 5. TMC's first hit team consisted of Adnan Sutkovic (Bremen) and Zulhajrat Seadini (Hamburg). Sutkovic's face briefly appeared in the infamous 2015 "The tourism of this Ummah" video, where Mahmoud and Abou-Zand shot to captives in Palmyra. Seadini's face was also already known.

  14. 4. Marcia Moews (pic 1) from Salzgitter – who's in YPG detention – was tasked to find "sisters" in Germany who would marry members of the hit teams for cover. She contacted Songül G. (pic 2) who was arrested and is now on trial, as well as an informant of German domestic intel.

  15. 3. Thomas-Marcel Christen and OSEO then plotted to hit Germany with at least three hit teams. They were trained by TMC in his Katiba Furqan which was stationed in Raqqa. The attackers were instructed to change their appearance to travel through Turkey into Europe.

  16. 2. Despite the fact that Hundreds of Germans had joined ISIS and propagandists like Denis Cuspert and Mohamed Mahmoud repeatedly called the "brothers" to act, there had been no major terror attack in Germany so far, which was rather embarrassing for the Almanis.

  17. 1. After the ISIS Jihadis he instructed had conducted deadly terror attacks in Paris and Brussels, Thomas-Marcel Christen was appointed as new ExOps commander for Europe. He now plotted to conduct a similar attack in Germany.

  18. Reflexe aus dem verblödeten Leben. Adorno ist unbedingt gegen solche infamen Elendsgestalten und Zitatefledderer in Schutz zu nehmen, die keine einzige Silbe verstanden haben.

  19. 32. The deadly attacks in Paris and Brussels were also a further career booster for the instructor Thomas-Marcel Christen within OSEO. He was promoted and became the overall ISIS ExOps commander for the whole European theatre, subordinate only to Abu Mohammed al-Adnani.

  20. 31. The video goes on showing the training sequence with TMC again, but then also showing scenes of the Brussels attack and the Brussels cell members Najim Laachraoui and Mohamed Belkaid who wear the same combat gear as the Paris attackers and were also instructed by Abu Musab.

  21. 30. After the Brussels attack, ISIS al-Hayat media released another video which includes the same sequence of Abdeslam during his training with TMC, but this time the Paris attacker can be heard speaking.

  22. 29. Authorities meanwhile were zeroing in on the remaining members of the terror network, but on 22/03/16 the cell struck Belgium: Suicide bombers attacked Brussels airport and a metro station, killing 32. At least two members of the cell were trained in Syria before.

  23. 28. The significance of the Paris OP was also reflected in the way ISIS media exploited the attack. They released several videos from their provinces, articles in their magazines and then the big "Kill them wherever you find them" video, which was done like an action movie (18+).

  24. 27. A German ISIS member later told me that TMC spend hours on the shooting range himself everyday. "He was basically shooting all day, he would watch videos of Western SOF drills and then repeat it on the shooting range."

  25. 26. The pixelated trainer we can see in this short sequence is indeed Thomas-Marcel Christen aka Abu Musab al-Almani, the elusive instructor of the Paris attackers.

  26. 25. The mysterious instructor is apparently wearing combat gear and a balaclava, but he was also pixelated by ISIS media to make his identification even harder.

  27. 24. During the combat exercise, an instructor can briefly be seen pushing Abdselam during the shooting, to train him staying focused on his targets even in a panicked crowd.

  28. 23. This is Brahim Abdelslam aka Abu Qaqa al-Baljiki, who later shot people in bars and restaurants in Paris' 10th and 11th arrondissements and who finally blew himself up in the Comptoir Voltaire.

  29. 22. But there is also one short sequence which shows one of the Paris attackers during a live fire exercise, probably on an abandoned military base in the vicinity of Raqqa/Tabqa.

  30. 21. The footage shows the Paris attackers dressed in combat gear shooting and decapitating prisoners most likely somewhere in Syria. Among them were the Bataclan attackers Ismaël Omar Mostefaï, Foued Mohamed-Aggad and Samy Amimour.

  31. 20. ISIS celebrated the Paris attacks with several videos from their provinces. But on 24.01.16, their central video branch al-Hayat media – then lead by German Christian Emde – released a 17:39min video with new footage of the Paris attackers.

    Show this thread
  32. 19. But one name didn't show up: Thomas-Marcel Christen. Authorities knew his kunya Abu Musab al-Almani before, but weren't sure about the elusive person hiding behind it – who wasn't a German national, but a Swiss. Who didn't allow pics of himself and broke contact w his family.

  33. 18. Authorities were looking for planners behind Paris. Soon names started making the round: Boubaker Hakim, a French Amniyat member. Fabien Clain, who spoke the audio claim for Paris. Belgian Oussama Atar, whose kunya is Abu Ahmed al-Iraqi as he fought for the org since 2003.

  34. 17. The attack was the most significant ISIS OP 'til today. The French government declared a state of emergency, thousands of soldiers were deployed in the country. France enhanced it's anti-ISIS operations in Syria, the German Bundestag supported the mission with Recce Tornados.

  35. 16. 130 people were killed in Paris. The ringleader Abdelhamid Abaaoud managed to escape and was killed in a raid five days later. Salah Abdeslam, the lone survivor of the terrorist cell, escaped to Belgium where he joined the rest of the Paris-Brussels ISIS terror network.

  38. 13. On November 13th 2015, TMC's phantasy about a blaze became reality in Paris: On 0920pm a suicide bomber blew himself up outside the Stade de France during the FRA - GER match. Soon after, several ISIS hit teams attacked bars and cafés, killing people with military precision.
