Guys - It’s been announced recently that the American Music Awards will be honoring me with the Artist of the Decade Award at this year’s ceremony. I’ve been planning to perform a medley of my hits throughout the decade on the show. Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun have now said that I’m not allowed to perform my old songs on television because they claim that would be re-recording my music before I’m allowed to next year. Additionally - and this isn’t the way I had planned on telling you this news - Netflix has created a documentary about my life for the past few years. Scott and Scooter have declined the use of my older music or performance footage for this project, even though there is no mention of either of them or Big Machine Records anywhere in the film.
Scott Borchetta told my team that they’ll allow me to use my music only if I do these things: If I agree to not re-record copycat versions of my songs next year (which is something I’m both legally allowed to do and looking forward to) and also told my team that I need to stop talking about him and Scooter Braun.
I feel very strongly that sharing what is happening to me could change the awareness level for other artists and potentially help them avoid a similar fate. The message being sent to me is very clear. Basically, be a good little girl and shut up. Or you’ll be punished.
This is WRONG. Neither of these men had a hand in the writing of those songs. They did nothing to create the relationship I have with my fans. So this is where I’m asking for your help.
Please let Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun know how you feel about this. Scooter also manages several artists who I really believe care about other artists and their work. Please ask them for help with this - I’m hoping that maybe they can talk some sense into the men who are exercising tyrannical control over someone who just wants to play the music she wrote. I’m especially asking for help from The Carlyle Group, who put up money for the sale of my music to these two men.
I just want to be able to perform MY OWN music. That’s it. I’ve tried to work this out privately through my team but have not been able to resolve anything. Right now my performance at the AMA’s, the Netflix documentary and any other recorded events I am planning to play until November of 2020 are a question mark.
I love you guys and I thought you should know what’s been going on.
Taylor
Please use this thread for all reactions and discussions on the new song Beautiful Ghosts, written by Taylor Swift and Andrew Lloyd Webber and produced by Greg Wells for the upcoming film adaptation of the musical Cats. The song is performed in the film by the principal character Victoria, portrayed by Francesca Hayward.
My fellow swifties, based on the reaction the Halsey thread is getting, I thought it would be a good idea to create a mega thread with all celebrity reactions to the Taylor V. Scott and Scooter drama. Please fill in comments with any celebrity reactions you find (Positive or negative) and where we can find it.
Here are some that I have found so far:
Gigi Hadid (twitter): Scott and Scooter, you know what the right thing to do is. Taylor and her fans deserve to celebrate the music!!
Lily Allen (twitter): Solidarity with Taylor here, this sounds awful, and people wonder why music hasn’t had its #MeToo moment?
Dodie (twitter): fuck this! give her back her music!!!! it’s not yours to take!!
Joseph Kahn (twitter): Some people come into the entertainment business and only see the business. But this is business made of people, feelings, stories. If you can’t see the humanity of this world, you don’t belong here with us. Scooter and Scott sold Carlyle Group on false premise: Taylor would cooperate on them buying her catalogue. She will not. This is a disaster for them. As businessmen they have to cut their losses and sell Taylor back her catalogue, otherwise it's negligence to their investors.
Rebecca Black (twitter): what a complete power pull @scooterbraun @scottborchetta. the way this industry is set up, there are times where we have to get legal permission to perform anything we share rights to. but denying access like this is solely to play with and diminish a person.
Stranger Things Writers / Randy Ravens (twitter): love you and support you always. #IStandWithTaylor / I support this Queen.
Tinashe (twitter): Fuck that. We’re with you. It genuinely genuinely makes me sick to my stomach
Spencer Pratt (Twitter): Sorry I’m not a pop superstar @taylorswift13 cause i def wouldn’t be quiet like all these lames
we are all rightfully angry that at what scooter and scott have done and are continuing to do to taylor. its unfair and immoral. and we want to express that anger and we should.
but if swifties post rat emojis on the insta or tweet @ them calling them names and mocking them or whatever they will use that against us and taylor. they will say taylor swift's fan base is full of bullies who you cannot take seriously.
and that will hurt us but more importantly it will hurt taylor, make her look bad.
so what do we do? we leave comments. whether we tweet @ them or post on thier insta or whatever we must be mature about it and it know that can be hard because were are so frustrated but look at what taylor just posted, it was mature and reasonable, she didnt resort to name calling or cussing them out or anything.
we need to be like taylor in our defense of taylor.
EDIT: apparently i've been given a silver and a gold award for this post which i've never recieved before so thank you to whoever did that!
Over the summer, when the original drama went down, it was pretty frustrating hearing some people's opinions on Taylor and claiming that it was her own fault and she was playing the victim as usual. Putting aside my personal bias I really can't see how anyone can hate on her for speaking out. It seems so black and white to me. Its not about politics or her dating life or Kimye, it's literally about the music.
Without a doubt there's gonna be haters and trolls, but I hope the general consensus among the public is that Taylor is taking a stand for what is right and BMR are being tyrants. She needs that support to win this.
Taylor was posting on social media, getting ready for the release of Lover, her favorite record she's ever made, and she gets the news that a bully has bought her masters.
In her post she said she's been trying to work this situation out, which probably required a lot of time she could've been doing other promo for Lover.
She can't perform her old songs live, which probably makes planning for a tour very difficult.
Obviously parts of the era have been fantastic and there are amazing moments that will never be ruined. But I wonder just how much this whole situation has had on the era....
What do we think this will be about ? Assuming she wins against Scooter and Scott and is able to release it. She mentions it’s about the past few years of her life. I’m thinking we didn’t get making of a song for Lover because that might be on the documentary. I hope she includes some of the process of making Lover.
But since Scooter and Scott are not allowing her to go through with that project, I think it’s fair to assume there’s a lot of rep related stuff on it.
Behind the scenes from tour? That would be amazing.
Obviously everyone in this subreddit is rightfully angry, and I’ve seen a lot of posts about how this is blatantly misogynistic on twitter. But besides this just being an attack on Taylor, please please please PLEASE don’t undermine/forget the obvious sexist undertones of this, too.
Feel PERSONALLY ANGRY that it’s nearly 2020, and we’re about to enter an new DECADE with a scandal that’s absolutely SEXIST at the root of it. Feel upset that possibly the BIGGEST POPSTAR IN THE WORLD is jumping through HOOPS and has to FIGHT to celebrate recognition that she earned that people are constantly saying she doesn’t deserve. This is not just a war against Taylor. She is the face of a much bigger problem in this industry and in our society right now.
Taylor’s situation just further exemplifies that successful women of every degree in every field cannot just be left alone to their successes. They cannot achieve anything without masses screaming excuses as to why they don’t deserve it. They cannot celebrate their own success without there being some sort of battle or outrage. Taylor did not write “The Man” for us to sleep on this being a sexist issue.
So if somebody asks why this has you hot and bothered don’t forget to add that it’s because this is just another example of men exerting whatever power they have over a women (that they already are making a ton of money off of, mind you), probably out of spite because she wasn’t complacent and didn’t keep her mouth shut the first time.
As Halsey wrote, “I could play nice or I could be a bully, I’m tired and angry but somebody should be.” Be angry, YES! But please don’t forget that even as Swifties, this is calling out a societal imbalance and we should make it a point of utmost importance to call out the misogynistic undertones of this situation, too.
This entire fucked up situation with Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta using their privilege as straight white men to control the life and career of Taylor motherfucking Swift, one of the biggest pop stars in history is really making to stop to think and realize maybe Taylor has been secretly trying to let us know how Scooter and Scott were doing this shit and trying her like shit for years through her music. For example Bad Blood, I Did Something Bad, Look What You Made Me Do, Out of the Woods, Don’t Blame Me, You Need To Clam Down I think are all, at least in part about Scooter and Steve. I used to think LWYMMD was about Kanye but now I think TIWWCHNT is more likely in that front, whatever the case I feel so bad that Taylor is being put through this and I wish people in stan culture especially on twitter could understand that is this so much bigger than petty online feuds but I think they’re scared that supporting Taylor would somehow mean they’re abandoning other artists like Ariana which is not true. Anyway I hope this doesn’t create issues I just wanted to put my thoughts out there as a Lady Gaga super fan who also loves and respects the hell out of Taylor Swift.
Hello!! I don’t want to get downvoted to oblivion but can someone clue me in on why INTHAF isn’t well received here? I personally love it and think it’s an amazing experimental song that’s a new direction for her and something her voice suits really well. It always makes me so calm and happy when I hear it! I think the lyrics are so sweet and it’s such a simple but cozy song. Just want other opinions and to have a discussion!
I’m an international swiftie who happens to be a lawyer...I’ve signed the petition and posted #IStandWithTaylor on my twitter account but want to go a step further in understanding the legal points. (I know nothing about US law)
Im sure Taylor’s lawyers have already looked into this... and it probably boils down to how the management contracts/ contracts surrounding her music are worded...but how likely is the argument of Taylor performing=re-recording her music gonna fly based on US copyright laws? Are there any other personal thoughts that lawyer(or non lawyer) swifties who are familiar with the industry have?
Feel free to delete this post it’s supposed to be in the main thread. Thanks in advance.
I think she's been reorganizing her YouTube channel, because these weren't there last time I checked. They're under Playlists > Albums, and the Red playlist is entirely karaoke versions(!!!). (The actual Red songs are in the Radio Release playlist.)
The way Taylor sings the song it makes me feel a bit sad? Like it sounds like she’s reflecting on how happy she is to finally have someone she can trust, love, and consider her “best” friend (because our significant other should be our best friend in life). It’s as if she’s remembering a point in her life where she didn’t have that, and it’s kinda relatable? Doesn’t everyone feel lonely and as if they don’t have anyone, so that’s why it’s “nice to have a friend” because nobody should ever be alone, or feel like they don’t have anyone. Listening to this song gives me hope that like Taylor, I’ll eventually never feel alone or lonely again, and find the lover who is my best friend too and I’ll say “it’s nice” to have them around.
Per TMZ's story: Our Big Machine sources say Taylor has admitted she owes the label more than $7 million and hasn't paid for more than a year. The sources add she also owes BM masters and video content.
I know I know I know it's TMZ. BUT. Does anyone have any idea what they're on about? And if true, why is BML just now suddenly griping about this 7 mil? And what masters and video content does she owe them?
