    Yes but this is laicism. Literally not a human right in such a system. Change the system if you want that to change. I don’t understand this logic

    They are mixing up what is appropriate to teach or not to teach in state schools with a fundamental human right, namely my right to wear a cross and hers to wear a headscarf. 2/

    Maybe, just stay with me here, the one time the US claims its about the oil it's not really about the oil?

    It really is amazing that the first time the US is openly admitting to be waging war for oil, it’s in a place with hardly any oil.

    "Refuses" - as if this is all some sort of video game where the possibility of shooting down a TurAF jet to enforce it / make a point is no big deal. It's just the United States avoiding making an easy decision! ok!

    The U.S. refuses to close the air space to air craft attacking the along the - border. Yet, the U.S. wants the SDF to continue to fight and die against in the MERV and help secure the oil. That seems like policy malpractice right there.

    For those who will be quick to say 's death does not matter. It's worth reviewing the concept among Salafist Jihadist groups of pledging allegiance to a leader (bay'ah) rather than assuming these are strict operational hierarchies we are used to in a state apparatus.

    I'm not above suggesting Erdoğan uses security operations to win votes but -- Operation Euphrates Shield started in August 2016 in response to changing events on the ground (imminent connection of PYD cantons) and the referendum was in April 2017. Weak connection.

    Reminder: the only election Turkey had without a Syria operation since the 2016-coup attempt was 2019 local elex, and Erdogan lost it badly. Prior to 2017 referendum --> Euphrates Shield Prior to 2018 June general elex --> Afrin operation …

    Authoritarian Ba’ath regimes have done their fair share of demographic re-engineering. Some people are so busy cheerleading one side they forget basic facts that they certainly have buried somewhere in that brain. Weak take

    As far as the leadership of the YPG/SDF is concerned, it is better for the Kurds to live under an authoritarian Baath regime than endure demographic re-engineering - the openly stated goal of the Turkish invasion. This is why they cut the deals with Damascus & Russia.

    I would say the Assad/Russia/Iran axis in Syria, for example, is far more successful. Turned a very ugly, gruesome image into "the best of bad options" and gained a lot of support relative to what other anti-US, pro-Iran, pro-Russia entities could have expected.

    A marketing or PR campaign's success is measured relative to doing an "average" job. When people say a product sells itself - it really does. That isn't a good campaign, it's a sellable product. Fighting ISIS sells itself and gaining support for that isn't a success.

    The organic western media/SM campaigns and public opinion in favour of SDF vs Turkey is so impressive: Saudis and Emirates with the billions they spend haven’t achieved nearly as much; the support is even bigger than what the Israelis with their massive lobbying machines have.

    I don't see any way this plays out. They're obligated to start a war with Turkey or else get prosecuted?

    Sanction risk is already priced into the Lira. The distinct possibility because real during the Brunson ordeal and with the Halkbank case already threatening a huge fine on a major financial institution.

    Turkish lira holding steady at 5.89 (y’day 5.90), despite Trump’s threatening letter to Erdogan, the Halkbank indictment and Turkey being in a shooting war (!). Surprised. Central Bank defense of lira may be a factor, IDK. Wd be interested to hear from others on the topic.
