Not really sure how many of you need this, but these are a few of the more intricate MMO Terms & Acronyms.

AFK: Away from Keyboard

Aggro: Aggressive monster

Allies: Players you are friends with. Also for party/guild members.

AoE: Area of Effect

Bot: To whomever it’s directed to, a statement that said character is using a third party program where no person is playing. Pretty much a person doesn’t need to operate the character, the program does it for them.

BRB: Be Right Back

Buff: Use of item/skill(s) that raise attributes or give other skill effects. Could be you buffing yourself or asking someone for buffs.

Camp: Waiting in a set spot/area and killing/taking specific spawns.

DoT: Damage over Time

DPM: Damage Per Minute

DPS: Damage Per Second

Farm: To collect many specific item(s).

FTL: For The Lose, expressing disdain for some thing/one.

FTW: For The Win, expressing excitement for some thing/one.

Gank: Killed by a group or player. Or a mob/item snatched away from you before you could attain it.

GG: Short for ‘Good Game’ also to be sarcastic or show dislike over a situation/conversation.

GL: Guild Leader, most times with no context it is ‘Good Luck’.

GM: Game Master. Sometimes assumed as ‘Guild Master’, but not very often now that it’s Guild Leader.

Grief(ed/er): A player who picks on other lower/newbie players. For whatever reason, they want to illicit a reaction from you. Take the high road and leave them hanging– If they harass you, report them!

Grind: To hunt many specific monster(s).

Guild: A group of players that are in the business of sticking together for more than just a party.

Guildies: Guild Members

Heal: Usually someone is screaming this so that an HP/MP restoration skill can be used on them.

Inc: Incoming

Instance: A solo area, party play is usually available in these areas but is up to the discretion to the Instance leader.

IRL: In Real Life

K/KK: Okay

Kite: Process of monster luring for your friends/allies/guildies/party members.

Loot: Rewards from monsters, or the action of attaining items from the ground.

Mob: Sometimes ‘Monster’, or the action of grouping monsters together.

Mule: Extra character usually full of extra or no longer in use items. Also used for crafting and selling items. Could also refer to a whole account with characters in this condition.

Nerf: Reduction of power to item(s), skill(s), class(es).

Newb(ie): Player who is new to a game or situation.

Ninja’d: Doing something good or bad before someone else or a group of players. Try not to loot when you aren’t supposed to with groups you are new to.

Np: No problem

NPC: Non Playable Character

Omw: On my way

Pull: Bait monsters away from your allies so they may pass safely. This if done correctly means no deaths, not even to yourself. If done incorrectly you can wipe everyone out…

QQ: Short for ‘Cry More/Moar’ also an emote for crying-> Q.Q / q.q

RMT: Real Money Trade, something that is never really condoned by the game because they are not responsible if you get ripped off.

Solo: Playing alone, believed to derive from ‘So lonely’ aka playing alone with no choice. Nowadays it usually means bossing/hunting by yourself because you want to. MMO’s are a HUGE now~

Spawn: Monster/item(s) appearing on a schedule or in a general schedule in a certain spot/area.

Tank: Someone with lots of HP that can take hits from high damage monster(s) or many monsters at once.

Tele: Teleport

Train: Leveling normal, unlike ‘Grind’ where you level like it’s all you do in life.

Troll: Similar to ‘Griefer’. Refers to a player that is not limited to actions but goes beyond them with words and really tries to get under your skin. Avoid these kinds of people as they thrive on your negative actions.

Wb: Welcome back

Wipe: Act of getting destroyed by monster/player(s).

xD: Laughing Hard Emoticon. Usually at the end of funny sentences in conversations.

Zerg: The act of rushing into a situation with a group of allies. Derives from Berserk, to go crazy doing something in hopes that brute force will work.
