Twitter is trolling the new Little Women official poster

    Olivia Harvey
    ,
    Hello Giggles•October 30, 2019

When the trailer for Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of Little Women was released at the end of the summer, everyone was in agreement that everything about it looked amazing. The cast was stacked (Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Timothée Chalamet, and Meryl Streep star), the tone was uplifting, and the snippets of Gerwig’s quick-witted dialogue already had us giggling. However, now that the official posters for the film have been released, Twitter is like, “Whoa, pump the brakes.”

On Tuesday, October 29th, two Little Women film posters were released to the public and met with a resounding, “Um, what?” Critics believe that the main theatrical poster is way too rom-com and barely does Louisa May Alcott’s girl-coming-into-her-own story any justice.

The horizontal photo bars introducing the cast is incredibly overdone and, as Twitter argues, reminiscent of every single romantic comedy film poster we’ve ever seen. And we love Timmy, and all. But why is he second down from the top when the film is truly about the “little women” in the March family?

Needless to say, Twitter ripped the posters apart as soon as they hit the platform.

There’s no way Greta Gerwig okayed this, right? There’s just no way!

Just look at how similar the first poster looks to romantic comedy posters. Ahem, Little Women is not *technically* a romantic comedy, Sony!

In fact, some people hate the posters so much, they decided to do some redesigning.

Okay, we kind of really dig this one.

Although many dislike the posters for , having seen the trailer first, we still have so much faith that this is going to be the best movie we see this winter.

Little Women hits theaters on Christmas Day, December 25th.

A woman was impaled by a metal pole while riding in the passenger seat of a car, but somehow miraculously survived

A California woman narrowly escaped a gruesome death after a long metal bar fell off a big rig truck, and burst through the underside of her car's exterior, impaling her in the leg. Police and firefighters arrived to pull the bar out of the woman's leg and rush her to the emergency room. Unsecured cargo loads like this resulted in 200,000 crashed between 2011 and 2014, according to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety.

Biden leads Trump in key battleground states but Warren does not, poll finds

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump's approval rating may be underwater, and about half of the country may want him impeached, but he still has shot to win in the half-dozen battleground states that could secure his reelection next year, according to a new poll from The New York Times and Siena College. The poll looked at potential matchups between Trump and the leading Democratic primary candidates in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Florida, Arizona and North Carolina, the states where Trump held his narrowest wins over Hillary Clinton in 2016. Former Vice President Joe Biden beat Trump among likely voters in all of those states but North Carolina in a hypothetical head-to-head contest, but his lead was 2% or less in all of them.

Goodbye, Beto O'Rourke. What a sad end to a pointless campaign

Perhaps the only person who ever truly thought Beto O'Rourke was likely to be president was Beto O'Rourke. What, if anything, can we take from the brief, underwhelming presidential run of Robert Francis O'Rourke? First, media hype does not a candidacy make.

Brazil's Bolsonaro says 'worst is yet to come' on oil spill

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said Sunday that "the worst is yet to come" with an oil spill that has affected more than 200 beaches on the country's coast. "What came so far and what was collected is a small amount of what was spilled," Bolsonaro said in an interview with Record television. Oil slicks have been appearing for three months off the coast of northeast Brazil and fouling beaches along a 2,000 kilometer (1,250 mile) area of Brazil's most celebrated shoreline.

Trump's 'Take the Oil' Strategy in Syria Is Not What You Think

On October 6, around fifty U.S. commandos in northeastern Syria tasked with hunting down ISIS forces were withdrawn from territory near the Turkish border controlled by the Kurdish-Arab SDF faction. The U.S. withdrawal was a prequisite for a Turkish attack against the Kurdish positions which subsequently took place in a matter of hours. The remaining hundreds of U.S. forces elsewhere in northeastern Syria were endangered in the crossfire and had to be withdrawn a few days later.

Ukraine to Fire Prosecutor at Center of Biden Gas Company Controversy: Report

Ukraine is planning to fire the prosecutor who directed investigations into the natural gas company that hired former vice president Joe Biden's son to serve on its board of directors. The move to dismiss the prosecutor, Kostiantyn Kulyk, first reported by Reuters, comes as Ukrainian officials are distancing themselves from the political firestorm ignited by President Trump's alleged efforts to coerce the opening of an investigation into his chief political rival. During a July 25 phone call with Ukraine's president, Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump asked Zelensky to help his administration investigate allegations that Joe Biden used his position as vice president to help natural gas company Burisma Holdings avoid a corruption probe soon after Hunter Biden was appointed to its board of directors.

‘Not our mission’: private fire crews protect the insured, not the public

As in the Kincade fire, private crews also sometimes access mandatory evacuation zones during active wildfires to protect valuable assets while the embers are flying – a move that makes some government firefighters and local authorities uneasy. Generally speaking, from our perspective, we have found that private fire crews are not first responders,” said Carroll Wills, communications director for California Professional Firefighters. Private fire crews travel into evacuation zones in trucks equipped with water tanks and hoses and retardant, looking nearly identical to their government counterparts – though their sole task is to protect specific insured homes.

Coming home after wildfire evacuations is a relief for some families, but can spell complete heartbreak for others. Some residents are returning home after California's largest evacuation in history to find their home and belongings have turned to ashes. Fires ignited across California and were fanned by strong winds last week -- the blazes threatened expensive Los Angeles area homes and the Getty Center, swept through agricultural land, closed the 405 Freeway, and almost burned down a presidential library.

French Resistance hero Yvette Lundy dies aged 103

Yvette Lundy, a Resistance hero who helped Jews escape occupied France, survived the horrors of Nazi concentration camps and went on to teach reconciliation, has died aged 103, authorities said Sunday. The youngest of seven children from a farming family in the champagne-growing region around Epernay, Lundy was a schoolteacher during the occupation and also worked at the town hall, a key job that allowed her to join a resistance network known as the Possum Escape Line. From 1940, she supplied fake papers to Jews, men fleeing the Nazis' forced labour programme -- the STO -- in Germany, and escaped prisoners of war, who were hidden by her brother Georges at his farm.

'It's not abuse, it's rape': protesters denounce Spanish assault ruling

Hundreds of people protested in Spain's capital on Monday against a court ruling last week that cleared five men of gang-raping a 14-year-old girl and instead found them guilty of the lesser charge of sexual abuse. Barcelona's High Court sentenced the five on Thursday to 10 to 12 years in prison, saying the 2016 assault was not rape because the victim, who was drunk and unconscious, could neither "agree to (nor) oppose the sexual relations". A similar ruling in the so-called Wolfpack case sparked mass protests across Spain last year over chauvinism and sexual abuse and it was eventually overturned by the Supreme Court in June.

Some countries are invested in preserving the current international order, and see naval power as a means to maintain it. The eastward shift in naval power will continue in 2030, a product of both declining defense budgets in Europe and growing economies in Asia. While the most powerful navies of the Cold War were concentrated largely in Europe, by 2030 both China and India will be on the list, with Japan and South Korea as runners-up also fielding large, modern naval forces.
