    There is a big story here — some US officials along with the Kurdish leaders of the SDF pushed a narrative about a central role for the SDF in the killing of Baghdadi. Both Trump and General McKenzie downplayed it. What’s going on?

    So Baghdadi’s DNA was obtained from his detention at Camp Bucca, according to the Pentagon. Not from stolen undies.

    Turkey is responsible for the groups it supports and these reports need to be addressed. Syrians didn’t rebel against Assad so he is replaced by bandits. There has to be more discipline and accountability.

    I have interviewed multiple Efrîn residents, Kurds (not affiliated with the PYD/YPG), Arab settlers and Turkish-backed fighters squatting in Kurdish homes. They describe ongoing war-profiteering & daily abuses such as kidnappings for ransom, property confiscation, theft.

    Completely in agreement w/ Jasmine here. The US withdrawal poses and immense risk to Arab components of the SDF who are wanted by the Assad regime. Ethnic cleansing is a crime. So is "extermination," which is what the UN accused the regime of doing in its prisons.

    Well that's a confusing take. We have argued to bring Iraqi and Afghan translators and others we've worked with for asylum to the US too.... does that imply dual-loyalty?

    Argument was rejected because it’s faulty: Kurds are vulnerable because of Turkey, thus they need asylum. It overlooks that Arabs are also at risk from that same action, because it led to their areas being handed back to regime. Ignoring this piece demonstrates bias.

    When you advocate for granting asylum for US supported civil society activists we abandoned, or white helmets we left high and dry in Dara’a as part of Brett’s push to hand area back to regime then we can seriously consider your argument.

    What makes you say Arabs are not vulnerable. What about Arabs in Manbij who opposed Assad and now may fall under his control? Not vulnerable? What about former SDF tribal members in Jazeera region. Or Raqqah.

    The article says take the people in that worked with us. That’s the SDF—of which Arabs are a part, but are not the most vulnerable component to this current threat.

    Simplistic is painting what’s happening as a war between Turkey & Kurds. YPG is not all Kurds and they persecute non-YPG Kurds and Arabs. All people living in NE now, which is 70 percent non Kurd are in danger from Turkey or regime in the areas that are being handed back to it.

    It’s simplistic when you take THAT argument and devolve it into an entire debate about the Syrian civil war, of which there are far more nuances and policy failures and limitations.

    I was there when the previous administration was hoodwinked into taking this decision and I’m afraid much of what we are seeing is a rewrite of why that decision was taken which is to protect a flaued policy.

    There are plenty of Syrians, Kurdish, Arab, etc who would gladly work with the US if it protects them from the Syrian regime, Iranian backed militias, ISIS, and even Turkey. It’s not rocket science. Protect people and they will work with you.

    I received information from several sources that forces of the arrived in E/ and started building military bases to strengthen their presence there,which angered Assad agents and Shabbiha,and at the same time,made me and the people of DeirEzzor so happy.
