There’s a reason Kurds are sharing so much intelligence. They want to show they played, and still play, a vital role fighting ISIS. That they lost 11,000 people doing it, and should not be abandoned by the US while their homeland is under attack. It's not about bragging rights.
-
key thing abt Kurdish-run mole in Baghdadi circle is that it shows isis fight was working. now Northern Syria is falling apart with Russia/Assad/Turks on the move. Kurdish troops barely want to talk to US forces anymore after Trump says Kurds should relocate to desert oil region.

.
@washingtonpost quite a few missing details here. Informant also identified house by memorizing distinguishing features, water tanks on roof, layout, shape of compound, that US intel matched to sat imagery - and later, had GPS.https://twitter.com/RichardEngel/status/1189342226918379532… -
US and Kurdish officials tell
@NBCNews raid on Baghdadi succeed despite Trump's efforts, not because of them. Remember, Trump wanted to pull US troops out Syria, effectively ending mission with Kurds, well before they had their informant. Mattis,@brett_mcgurk resigned over it. -
Gen. Mazlum tells
@NBCNews informant was so trusted by Baghdadi he, unlike others, was not blindfolded when taken to him, just told to lay back car seat, and not to look out windows. But that he could still see distinguishing features of area, looking out of the tops of windows. -
.
@washingtonpost says informant will get the reward, or at least part of it. and the 'movement' was to Jarabulus, according to Kurdish intelligence, where the now dead spokesman had already set up a new house. And informant tied to that hit as well. https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/islamic-state-turncoat-inside-baghdadis-hideout-critical-to-success-of-raid-officials-say/2019/10/29/e702c2fa-fa86-11e9-ac8c-8eced29ca6ef_story.html?hpid=hp_hp-top-table-main_baghdadi-745pm%3Ahomepage%2Fstory-ans …https://twitter.com/MSNBC/status/1189311715797819394… -
Kurdish intelligence official tells
@NBCNews Baghdadi had been preparing to move to Jarabulus, also on Turkish border. Was setting up a new safehouse there, which they didn’t know, or know as well. So plan was to kill Baghdadi in house the informant had studied, or on the road. -
Gen. Mazlum told
@NBCNews the informant in Baghdadi's inner circle who passed critical information about the ISIS leader's movements and hideouts to Kurdish intelligence - who passed it on to US Intel - was motivated by revenge. -
SDF commander Gen. Mazlum told
@NBCNews the Kurdish-controlled informant inside Baghdadi’s inner circle was a security advisor, and one of a small group of people allowed to visit the ISIS leader. -
Gathering the intelligence for the raid on Baghdadi was like putting together a puzzle. Many sources involved. The CIA apparently at the center, putting the pieces together. The Kurdish-led SDF is saying its source, in Baghdadi’s inner circle until the end, was the KEY piece.
-
A Kurdish official just told
@nbcnews Gen. Mazlum misspoke, and that SDF intelligence provided US intelligence with Baghdadi’s used underwear and a sample of BLOOD, not hair, and that both matched Baghdadi’s DNA. more details to come.Show this thread -

Gen. Mazlum tells
@NBCNews Kurdish intelligence helped track down ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi by stealing his used underwear and a sample of his hair to test for DNA, and that US intelligence confirmed a match months ago. -
Kurdish leader Gen. Mazlum says an ISIS informant, run by Kurdish intelligence, provided detailed information about Baghdadi's safehouse to US intelligence, including its floor-plan and tunnels.
-
Gen. Mazlum Kobane tells
@NBCNews that Kurdish intelligence had a deep source in Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi's inner circle who provided information essential to the US raid that killed the ISIS leader. Mazlum said the informant was at Baghdadi's compound as it was assaulted.Show this thread -

My thoughts on the successful Baghdadi operation in tomorrow’s
@washingtonpost. A landmark day for the United States and the civilized world that could not have happened absent our Syrian Kurdish partners.https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/baghdadis-death-underscores-what-weve-lost-by-abandoning-syrias-kurds/2019/10/27/117c6688-f8db-11e9-8906-ab6b60de9124_story.html… -

The irony of the successful operation against al-Baghdadi is that it could not have happened w/o US forces on the ground that have been pulled out, help from Syrian Kurds who have been betrayed, and support of US intelligence community that has so often been disparaged.

Baghdadi's capture was the direct result of the SOF and intelligence relationship between the U.S. and Syrian Kurds—carried out by the Delta Force and aided by intel the Kurds collected. This is exactly the kind of work Trump's withdrawal will undermine:https://foreignpolicy.com/2019/10/27/isis-islamic-state-leader-baghdadi-killed/…

I’ve been to Barisha area where US officials are confident American special ops killed ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. It’s a smuggling area, has been for a long time. If you’re there, it’s likely for one reason: to cross the border illegally, into or out of Turkey.

@NBCNews that Islamic extremists who control the area (mostly former Nusra guys) “sanitizing the site” where ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was likely killed, saying "no filming" while “they remove bodies.” -

Kurdish fighters are facing Turkish-backed militias alone after President Trump ordered U.S. forces to pull back. American troops are still in the region, with a new mission, to protect Syrian oil fields.

The White House Trump statement telling the entire Federal Government to terminate subscriptions to the NYT and Wash Post is a watershed moment in national history. No room for HUMOROUS media coverage. This is deadly serious. This is Mussolini.

You’re wrong. It’s been 5 yrs US troops fighting ISIS with Kurds in Syria. I watched it start. Troops coming home? There weren’t ever many in Syria, and many of them were elite special ops on frequent short deployments, going home all the time. Isis trying to rebuild, not secure.https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/1187708412685107200…

There is something I call the Dictator's Treadmill: once you get on, you can’t get off, because falling off means ending up in jail. It's something I often consider wherever I report. What options does the leader have, and what is he/she willing to do not to fall off?

@realDonaldTrump calling on the Kurdish people to head to Syria's "Oil Region" where they have never lived. He's saying Kurds should abandon their cities, farms and homes. Mass population transfer was a tactic Stalin often used, not one called for by modern American presidents. -
The US president just told the Kurdish people to uproot from their homeland - while under fire in a war he approved - and move to the "oil region," a hostile, mostly desert area with an Arab population, where Kurds are NOT welcome and have never lived.
